MX-2900 is a very stylish device in silvery aluminum body with huge camber under the right hand. As a whole camera makes a good impression. The most important dignities MX-2900, probably, are nevertheless possibility of saving an image in a format TIFF (truth, little non-standard) and at once rushing in eyes customary "shoe" for strengthening an external flash (in addition to built-in, throwed off if necessary). In general it looks as a completely professional camera. A bit enlarged size of the camera improves it ergonomics, increases convenience of the treatment with it and as a whole simplifies it uses. By some properties MX-2900 reminds about MX-600 and MX-2700, but offers considerably more possibilities. The camera has a matrix by a size of 1/1,7 inches (2,3 mln pixels) and ensures a maximum size of an image 1800 x 1200 of pixels (when you desire and without a compression). Optics with 3-multiple overfall of a focal length: from 35 up to 105 mm (in an equivalent of 35 mm). However, rather dark: it the apertures will deviate on a "short" extremity a range 1:3,3 - 7,6, and on "long", accordingly, it is even less - 1:5 - 11. MX-2900 offers some completely unique properties absent on other digital cameras, one from such properties is the saving of uncompressed images in a format TIFF, with which EZTouch utility, delivered together with the camera then works. It is interesting, that while other digital cameras which are capable to save of a photo without a compression, spend for this mad amount of time (30 seconds or more), MX-2900 is operated with it with speed from 7 about 8 seconds, and does it not in any special, but practically in a standard format. For JPEG-shots it is possible to place three levels of compression: Fine, Normal and Basic. Other excellent feature MX-2900 is a set of standard "assistants" - manuals on organization of a frame, which are mapped as thin whi
te frameworks on a LCD-screen. An apart from other it also simplifies a correct automatic focussing and exposition. "Assistants" will be called in an automatic mode, pressing a button DISP. First represents the common plan - separating grid for global planning and is called by default, and other two manuals - group shot and portrait are selected by horizontal arrows. Unfortunately, such "assistants" are not called in a manual mode. MX-2900 is sold with 8-Mb card SmartMedia, it is obvious inadequate such device (map of 16 Mbytes would be more preferable), and the users wishing to save an image in best Hi-mode (in a format TIFF), should seriously be puzzled in this occasion. You see even on a map of 32 Mbytes is possible to save only seven uncompressed images in the resolution 1800x1200. Main defect of the camera, doubtlessly, is the absence of information in a mode of shooting (current significance's of endurance and diaphragm), without which the use of some possibilities of this camera is extremely inconvenient. As the corollary, sometimes happens rather difficulty to receive that quality of shots, on which is capable MX-2900. Such indication, doubtlessly, would be very useful, even if it slightly blocked the scene. It is necessary to mark, that Fuji continues to use own accumulators and in MX-2900. The battery rather long works, but requires very much long time on charging (approximately 8 hours of a power supply unit, delivered with the camera,). However it is possible to purchase the separate charge device BC-80, with the help of which it will be charged only one hour. Is the amicable, universal camera, which approaches both for the beginners, and for the more experienced photographers. Many from it of properties not only are useful, but also perfectly work on improving of quality of received shots. The shots with Fuji MX-2900, show perfect details and demonstrate a good color balance. In user interface are two control systems: use of the disk for choice of modes, buttons and liquid crystal indicator on the upper party (with some information on a LCD-screen) and call of the text menu, borrowing all LCD-display, for extended settings. The menu is rather convenient and ensures rather fast access to many parameters of the camera, as in a mode of reproduction, and shooting. However white text can be difficulty is readable on a bright shot. The software for MX-2900 is on one CD-disk and consists from simple editor of images Picture Shuttle, utility EZTouch and TWAIN-driver. EZTouch is capable to read snapshots from the camera (including a TIFF-format for uncompressed image). Using a non-standard method of coding of color, Fuji reduces a file size necessary for saving of images in the resolution 1800x1200, up to 4,1 Mbytes (noncompressed TIFF would require in 6,2 Mbytes on an image that of a size). However this TIFF-format is capable to read not only program EZTouch, but also many other (for example, ACDSee), and being once read out, it can be saved and in a standard format exif-TIFF, which is opened in any graphic editor. That can be done and from any other graphic editor with the help of of TWAIN-interface. However this driver is rather primitive also anything, except for transposition of images, can't do, and by camera does not operate.
The MX-2900 Zoom is a great camera to buy. The controls are so simple you won't even need to read the instruction manual. Not saying that you shouldn't read the manual. If you are looking for a camera to start off in the digital age this is the one for you. Not too expensive and nice features. Lens is equal to a 35-110mm. There is a LCD screen which makes it easier to frame your subjects, What you see in the view finder will be saved to your memory card. Using the LCD screen is handy but it will eat up your battery power. Not to worry though as the camera comes with a re-chargable battery. An 8Mb smart media memory card is supplied with the camera, I would suggest that you buy either a 16 or 32Mb card so that you can save more images.
