Advantages: A good basic digital camera
Disadvantages: Not many.
This Digital camera is called the A800, 8 mega (meaning Million) pixels. The makers, Fujifilm, they have been in this business for a lot of years. They do have a website especially for digital cameras - look here:-
http://www.fujifilm co.uk
The list of specifications, is quite impressive, including a new "Mode dial" which is a good feature for quickly selecting modes. It has Red Eye reduction, and a lot more besides. The camera is supplied with two AA batteries, but I recommend rechargeable ones. The instruction manual is very good, and easy to follow.
The camera is an absolute doddle to use, if you can handle a simple point and shoot, then you will have no trouble with this one. I do recommend them for everyone, experienced or not.
If you haven't seen these cameras, then you will not be familiar with the LCD Display. You will quickly get the hang of it, it is simply a screen which acts as a viewfinder, and also a display to see the info you need to. You no longer have to remember which setting anything is on, it is displayed in front of your eyes in the form of a simple icon. This screen is only two and a half inches across but this is perfectly adequate (How big is your viewfinder?). Plus, you won't get glare, as it has an anti-reflective coating so as to prevent it when taking snaps in sunlight for instance.
If you require the info about the lens, then you should understand that it has an optical (x3) with a focal range, equivalent to 36mm to108mm, compared with conventional film. There is also the option of a 6.9 x digital zoom.
The memory to use is contained in an XD (extreme digital) or SD (secure digital) card, the clever little camera actually takes them both! In addition to this, when it's full, it simply goes onto the camera's own internal memory, so you need never miss a picture while changing memory cards.
As for the sizes of the cards, do not worry about this nowadays, as these cards will store plenty of pictures. They are also available everywhere, and they weigh almost nothing, so you will not have to pay a lot in postage.
I am comparing the A800 model with my last camera, the A200. This is far more modern, and has all you will ever need.
The only optional extras you are ever likely to buy are cards, and perhaps lenses.
I must say I like this camera, mainly because it is so logical, and very comfortable to hold. It gives very good results. In my opinion the batteries last longer than previous cameras, however this is only my opinion, and I can't prove this.
I will now very simply explain the use of a computer to download, store, and or print your pictures. All you do is download all or some of your images to your desktop, or laptop, via a data type cable, and then print them, send them, by e-mail, or just store them as you wish.
Smile!
