I recieved this camera for my birthday In December, and today have just gone to exchange it for another. I was very unhappy with this product so thought I would write a review to let others know of my experiences with it.
Firstly, a bit about the camera itself. It comes in many different colours (as far as I am aware it comes in silver, black, blue, pink and red and a white goldish colour), has 16 megapixels and a 5x optical zoom as well as capturing high resolution images in a 16:9 format. It has many different features which include blink detection, face detection, smile and shoot, and red eye removal. The camera comes with an auto mode which is supposedly meant to detect the shooting conditions, for example night or day, indoor or outdoor and adapt the settings accordingly. The camera allows the user to change the picture colour to black and white and sepia too get a bit of a different twist on your photos. You can also create videos which capture high resolution images in a 16:9 format. My camera cost 79.99 from Boots but prices do vary depending on where you go, I have seen it for as little as 65 pounds on Amazon.
The camera comes with the following shooting modes: Portrait, Baby, Smile, Landscape, Panorama, Sport, Night, Night (Tripod), Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Party, Flower, Text which can be found under the SP mode. To the right of the camera is the mode dial, in which you will find the other shooting modes: SR AUTO, AUTO, Natural Light, Natural Light & with Flash, SP1, SP2, Movie, P. The mode dial makes it very easy to switch between modes in an instance. The camera is fairly small and compact and weighs in at 113 grams. The accessories it comes with are a Li-ion battery NP-45A, Battery charger BC-45C, plug adapter , USB cable, hand strap and CD-ROM Owner's manual. The images are easy to upload to the computer, literally takes a matter of seconds, and the battery slots into a seperate plug socket which makes it very easy to charge. The LCD screen is big enough at 2.7 inches and takes up the majority of the camera.
Now a little about my experience. I do not require an excellent camera because I only wish to use it for amateur shots on days/nights out. As long as it takes decent photos, I am happy! Previous to this camera, I had a much cheaper one (cannot remember the model or make) which cost around 50 pounds and the quality was fine, much better than the jx350 anyway! I would have thought, for a camera in this price range, I would be getting far better quality photos.
To begin, when I first opened the camera, I was expecting to be able to use it right away. However, this camera has absolutely no internal memory whatsoever, which was not made clear at all. So I then had to go out and spend another ten pounds on getting a memory card. I then used the camera on my birthday night out. When I got back and looked at the photos, some of them were of awful quality, and I just put this down to me not being able to use the camera properly and having it on the wrong setting. However, when I next used the camera I was having the same problem, so checked it out further. Some of the photos were coming out very dark, whilst others were exceptionally bright and the persons face was just a white blur. In both instances, the flash would be going off, however it seemed unable to get the exposure right. I tried every different setting possible, but too no avail. Every now and again a photo would come out okay, and it was fine in the daylight outdoors, but for use indoors or at night it was just plain useless. Now, I am not entirely sure whether this was a fault with the camera or whether the camera was just of poor quality. There do not seem to be many reviews online regarding this model so have been unable to decide whether the former or latter is true. However I would highly recommend buying a different camera if you are considering this one!
Today I went back to Boots with no receipt and the staff were happy to exchange the camera for me. I ended up paying 10 pounds more to get the fujifilm z90 which has just come out, it looks sleek and so far seems to be a much better quality camera! When I have used it a lot more I will write a review on this.
The fuji cameras come with a year warranty and you are advised to register your camera on their website to make insurance claims easier and more efficient.
