Fujifilm Finepix S1730
Advantages: A really good camera which even the uninitiated can use
Disadvantages: Feels a bit plasticy
I bought this camera last year when I got married. We had decided to save (a lot of) money and have a friend take our photos for us so wanted a decent camera for the job. We were lucky and it was half price at the time and paid £99 and I see it currently sells on Amazon for £129.99 - which I still think is a good price for it.
With its 15x optical and 6.3x digital zoom getting clear pictures from a distance has been very good. I can sit on my bench in the park or at the beach and get good shots as my kids run around enjoying themselves.
With the choice of using the 3" viewing screen or turning off the display and using the view finder it is easy to capture the shot I want, even when light makes it difficult to see what's on the screen.
The 12.2mp resolution also ensures good quality photos and i was very happy with all the photos of our special day.
With a weight of 337g it is heavier than the compact camera I am used to but is not too heavy to use for a prolonged length of time. It did feel quite cheap and plasticy when we first got it but the more we used it the more robust it seemed. It's been all over the place with us, Spain, camping, days out, and so far shows no signs of wear and tear. The camera dimension are 3.1" x 4.37" x 2.98" for height, width, and depth and it comes with a strap for ease of carrying whilst in use.
I am not what you would call a pro photographer - most of my photos are taken with my phone - but even I have managed to successfully use some of its special features. I managed, with a little initial guidance, to get a really good panoramic shot at Stone Henge. I also like the option for the camera to continuously take shots whilst holding down the button and have managed to capture some great action shots of my 10 year old. The auto focus with image stabilisation helps me no end and its face recognition software even tells me when someone in the photo has blinked - although it also says this about inanimate objects sometimes.
The camera is easily connected to a pc via a usb cable although I tend to use a good quality SD card to store and use any photos I take.
All in all we have found this camera to be excellent and I am looking forward to discovering and learning to use its other functions.
Summary: A good camera with easy to use functions
