After years of begging my parents for a new camera every Christmas, birthday or any other event I thought would be a reasonable time to ask, they eventually bought me this. The Fujifilm Finepix S4200 is a great camera and I loved it. I felt like a real photographer with it round my neck, and took pictures like one too!
The quality is superb and it lacks in nothing for a beginner. The easy to use dial at the top allows you to switch into several different modes for when you're feeling adventurous and want to experiment with the settings, but there's always the trusty auto setting to fall back on when you just want a good old hassle-free picture.
The camera boasts a terrific 24 x optical zoom which is just fantastic. The range means that it is easier to use than the more complex DSLR cameras and requires no lens change, which is ideal for all the situations life throws at you.
When I started I knew nothing about photography other than the basic point and shoot. However through this camera I was able to learn about the different relationships between ISO, shutter speed and aperture and have learned to love my manual setting. It was the perfect building block to buying my DSLR camera and well worth it.
The only thing I would say is that it is powered by four AA batteries, which I found annoying at times. However, had I actually thought about it and had gone and bought rechargeable batteries it would have been no problem whatsoever. Plus, the fact that it takes AAs means that if you're ever on holiday or on day trips away from a plug socket and it happens to run out (which rarely happens, the amount of shots you can take with one set of batteries is great!), spare AA batteries are cheaper and easier to find than than the awkward and expensive camera batteries.
A few months ago I decided (although somewhat reluctantly) to give this camera to my six year old niece in order for her to pursue her love of photography, and she loves it. This easy to use and perfect to learn from camera is brilliant and I would recommend to anyone wishing to find their love of photography. The pictures are fab and it is such good value for money. Buy it and enjoy your time with it!
I only took up photography when I asked for a camera for my birthday. And from from i recieved I have never looked back. This camera for me was the best introduction into photography I could of had. I caters for all different needs of a photographer with its extensive variety of features.
The FinePix S4200 is designed for users who want maximum reach without hindering image quality or ease of use. I first noticed the quality of image at distance when i visited the rocky mountains in canada, capturing some amazing quality nature pictures. The high-quality 24x Fujinon optical zoom lens allows for this maximum reach, aswell as offering other advanced features in a compact, robust, easy-to-use body.
The Optical Power Zoom lens makes this camera model ideal for wildlife enthusiasts, keen travellers
The camera's lens has the Fujinon level of expert engineering to minimise any hand shaking or distortions.
The FinePix S4200 also features a 'Super Macro' mode that focuses to just 2cm for detail-filled close-ups particularly good for wildlife and plants.
The FinePix S4200 Fujifilm embeds the unique 1/2.3-inch 14 megapixel CCD sensor offering the renowned image quality that has made fujifilm the company it is today.
I found I was taking quality picture after quality picture with this camera, never having to look back and delete any due to distortion or bad quality due to lighting. So fo this camera hasnt had a fault with me.
Althought video camera was something i would be less interested in, never the less it still proved to be up there at the top with quality.
The camera offers 720p HD movie capture at 30fps for smooth movies and short videos. Watching the video is achieved when the S4200's HDMI output is used to connect the cameras to an HD ready TV for instant playback.
Users of these S4200 can choose between composing their pictures using the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF), and the 3.0-inch LCD screen on the rear of the camera. Personally i found the 3.0-inch LCD screen easier to achive the better picture due to the ease of use and abilitly to observe more of what picture you were actually taking. The cameras rear screen has an improved brightness compared with previous models, enhancing details and colours appearing more realistic.
The option to Date Stamp images came in very useful when I visted canada as it allowed me to picture each day and categorise when I returned home.
Considering the size of the camera, it has been ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the user's hand even throughout long shooting sessions
For convenience, widely available 4x AA batteries power this model, making it ideal for travelers or holidaymakers. However I would prefer having a chargeable battery so the cameras feels more a solid unit.
Overall this camera has served its purpose since i have had it. The quality of the pictures i have obtained are unquestionable. Top Buy for any picture snapping enthusiast.
This camera is very good value for the price.
The 14MP is enough for superb quality pictures and the print out well up to A3 size.
The 24 x zoom means you can get in really close to the action. Combined with digital zoom it is possible to get even closer although some image quality is lost.
My main concern is the speed to turn on as it seems slow compared to my other cameras meaning you could miss that all important picture. I am also not keen on the camera menu. This could be because I am used to other systems, but I find it difficult to navigate and find the settings I want to use.
It is not a very compact camera an would generally require a case for carying it about (It's not going to fit in your pocket unless you wear very baggy trousers). The weight is about normal for a camera of this type although some of the more expensive brands are lower.
Video is crisp and sharp and with a decent sized memory card you can record for several hours.
Build quality is not perfect, but acceptable. The grip feels cheap compared with other cameras. Depsite this the camera feels fairly solid. I wouldn't trust it in a backpack when snowboarding (I have learnt the hard way and smashed a few cameras this way and now try to buy very solid cameras)
If I was looking for a reasonably priced good quality camera, I would definitley recomment the Fujifilm FinePix S4200 for value and photo quality in this price range. Similar in quality to a similarly specified Olympus version however much cheaper.
Don't ask me why, but on a whim I decided a bridge camera was the way forward. Love the camera on my Iphone, but I wanted something with a little more va-va- voom, a better zoom and immensely better quality. Now taking any sort of a picture is a bit of a lottery with me.. eyes shut, gaping mouths, add three stone to the weight of the subject (popular me - errr no not after that), so I wanted a camera that was cleverer that me - and I found it. This little baby tells me when they blink or move and has a fabulous auto setting which is what I will use until I get used to the camera and is idiot proof (well except the lens cap which only goes on when the camera is in off mode - 2 hours that took me to find out!)
I pretended to be David Bailey and took shots of baby animals at the zoo which were miles away, leaves, plants, anything that didn't look like it might ask me if I had a disclaimer for them to sign and the zoom was amazing. No faff, no fuss, no changing lenses (as if I could) but the photos (and I am the original challenged girl at taking them) were beyond awesome - every single hair was there.
I bought it on the recommendation of the media tech guy where I work. His thinking was that it has a brilliant lens, is relatively simplistic for the newcommer, but also able to deal with those who really know what they are doing - those who are already laughing heartily at me.
At some point in time I will be able to take it from my bag and merrily string it from my neck in gay abandon; but I'm still very much at the learning stages. Buy it - enjoy it!
The Fujifilm FinePix S4200 is a bridge camera which basically means it has the features you would get in a compact camera and it's not quite a full SLR in terms of changeable lenses ("bridged the gap" between point-and-shoot cameras and SLRs) so you get benefits from both types of cameras.
It has a 24mm wide lens so it's great for taking shots at a normal distance also the macro shots are excellent with this camera.
The lens is 24 x optical zoom so when taking shots from a distance the lens comes into it's own.
In my opinion the camera its self is really well designed, it fits in the hand well with a nice grip on the right hand side reminding me a an SLR camera.
The camera weighs around 540 g so it's not too heavy.
It has 3.0 inch LCD display with a nice resolution of 230000 dots which makes viewing the pictures you have taken crisp and clear even viewing pictures you have taken with full zoom.
A feature I really like is the ability to switch from the LCD view to electronic viewfinder.
It has an easy to use mode dial, it has SR auto, Auto, Automatic mode with programmed settings, Automatic mode with user setting the shutter speed, Automatic mode with user setting the aperture, Manual, Custom, Panorama, scene selection and Movie modes
Overall I really like this camera the only thing for me that lets it down it the movie mode, it shoots 720p, which the filmed footage is quite good but the mono microphone really lets it down, sound comes out muffled and crackly. And the battery life is not great, I would recommend ordering some rechargeable batteries.
I think, it's a good decision to buy the Fujifilm FinePix S4200, the price is cheap enough for this great performance. And I never regret it. It can take high quality images, with 24x zoom! It can stitches together multiple photos for a wide perspective. If you are one type of people who want a long zoom and elegant camera [just like me], then grab it. And you wil get what you want with this camera in your own hand. I also can bring it anywhere without worrying about the battery, because there are 4AA batteries that can be used after one charge. And another advantage of the Fujifilm FinePix S4200 is about the buttons. It's easy to use, it's not confusing me. I can record anything as well with this camera, and the video is good enough for me. And for the colour, I love my black Fujifilm FinePix S4200, it looks elegant for me. Because this cutie camera, now I'm falling in love with photography. this is so much fun.
I bought this product two months ago as I decided I wanted to get into a new hobby, and photography seemed perfect for me.
Although I have never had an extensive range of camera's, the picture quality on this camera is truly mind blowing, and that's all you'd expect at 14 MP (Mega Pixels). The camera has some very handy and impressive features, such as a 24 x Optical Zoom, which allows you to zoom in a great distance without loosing too much quality like you would with other cameras.
As I'm quite new to photography, I decided to buy an affordable camera, and the price of this camera is amazing for what you receive! I bought the product for £149.99 off Amazon, even though it's on there for £119.99, so get it while it's cheap! I promise you that you will NOT regret the decision a single bit.
The camera has a 3 inch LCD screen which is great for viewing the high quality picture you have just taken, as well as having a USB port so you can conveniently transfer your picture to and from you computer and laptop!
The product comes with a shoulder strap, a lens cap, a lens cap cord, a CD-ROM, as well as an Owner's Manual which is really helpful to amateur photographers such as myself!
The camera has a built in feature known as "Tracking Auto Focus", this feature allows you to capture dynamic close-ups as this function keeps fast moving subjects in the frame and in focus, this is helpful if taking pictures of events such as an air show, a football match or horse riding.
As well as taking very high quality pictures, this camera also allows you to shoot 720p HD movie capture at 30fps, this makes for some smooth movies which can be connect to HD ready TV's for instant playback using a HDMI output.
Another great feature is the fact that this camera doesn't require any special batteries or charging every hour or so, because this camera runs off simple AA x Batteries which can be bought from almost any store.
The camera also seems to work great in any type of atmosphere or lighting situation such as at night time or in other dark areas.
The only two downsides I can see to this camera is: One, the camera is slightly heavy which can lead to your hand shaking if trying to get that perfect still picture, although this can be solved easily using the shoulder strap which comes with the product. The other problem, which to me is quite a major one, is the fact that it requires SD (San Disc cards), this is because the camera has NO internal memory. This is such a big problem because unless you buy a SD card with a high memory storage, it can lead you to having lots of SD cards scattered around the house, not knowing which one is which. SD cards can also be quite expensive on top of the price of the camera.
