great camera for anyone wanting professional photos at a reduced prce

My husband bought me this camera nearly 2years ago and I LOVE it to bits. I wanted a digital SLR but at the time but due to cost was unable to get 1. A friend who is a professiona photographer suggested i get a "bridge camera", and this is what this is.

I personally like fuji as a make and feel the products are easy to use and good quality but not too expensive. I do have 2 other fujifim camers (Z35 and the A500) which are ok for what they are, and are used by husband and children.

This took a bit of getting used to both in size and capability, having previously only used the above 2 small cameras. It has many more functions and settings. even now i wouldnt say I fully know the camera 100% and i still find new things on it or in magazines.

It has a small internal memory as well as the option for SD and XD cards, which is handy as i have both.

it is a very comfortable camera to hold, with a rubbery hand grip on the right hand side under the button, and it can be used 1-handed with practise. it has the option for wrist and neck straps, i personally would not use a wrist strap as the camera is too big BUT i do have a neck strap, which is slightly padded for comfort.

although it didnt come with the camera the padded waterproof case i bought has been a great help when climbing mountains and trips to the zoo, it has provided proteaction from little knocks.

the photo quality is very good and much better than the smaller fuji models i have. it takes great photos indoors and outdoors. has a wide range of settings including portrait, landscape, beach, snow, party etc. and these DO help picture quality in these types of setting. i have taken many great photos with this camera. distance isnt an issue as the cameras zoom is great and you dont loose quality.

i have had to buy high strength re-chargeable batteries as lower ones didnt seem to last very long in the camera even after a full charge.

Awesome Digital camera perfect for a semi-pro photographer!

I bought this camera last year, prior to my DREAM trip to Peru- where I spent a lot of time in some very harsh weather conditions, whilst doing the INca trail in the Andes mountains and various other high altitude (very high altitude!) parts of the Andes.
Anyways, this camera is one of my FAVOURITE "loves of my life". The pictures i have taken with it(and I'm no professional photographer, but perhaps a good amateur one ;-) - has brought me and load sof other people MUCH joy. I'm expecially in to Nature photography. animals, birds, sun sets(including some deep red ones we've had here in Belfast), and MOUNTAINS! And much much more!

This camera, given that I paid a bargain £99 for it(at a well-known supermarket.. ) is jsut JAM packed with semi-pro features.
Firstly there is the most useful optical features -
        - it's 10x OPTICAL Zoom(coupled with a bit more digital zoom).
        - Then comes it's rather diverse set settings and adjustments one could make to various settings , relating to exposure, shutter speed and all the usual photographic factors/issues/needs.
        - The best part though(for me as an pro-amateur photographer), is that it has various built-in settings for various scenarios, evnets, and light conditions. Which means.. that we don't have to tweak around(manually) with all the various technical settings relating to exposure, shutter speed and so on.

instead, we can choose the type of setting/environment/time of day, we wish to shoot in, and off we go! clickety click!
This is one of those products, that even my ciritical eye.. really CANNOT FAULT- esepcially, given the price range!

I have a 16 G.B top of the range SanDisk memory card in it- which obviously helps, when taking high resolution pictures- which take a while to store, and when on holida in the mountains, u need to be able to click quickly(and hence STORE it on flash memory, quickly!)

Anyways, the photos i've taken have proven to me that .. this camera really is AMAZING value for money and FEATURE packed , FLAWLESS and just D I V I NE ! I love you FinePix S5800! :))
(Actually, occassionaly it comes up with violet circles/shapes in some of the pictures, when taken facing sun light or sources of Light.. probably an optical issue.. to do with the lens, but it happens so rarely that i've not thought of it until now. )

A great camera, especially for an entheusiastic photographer without a massive budget

This handle with this camera is more comfortable to use than the standard type of camera. Having such a big optical zoom is a bonus because it's much less blury than digital zoom. The flash is very effective and it can be set in all the standard useful ways - automatic, indoor, etc. There are a variety of different settings to take your pictures - black and white, sepia, normal, night time, etc. The screen for exploring these features is large and easy to use. Basically, this combines the great features and aesthetic of an old fashioned model with the slick technology, usefulness and fun of the newer digital models. It also comes with a strap so you can hang it around your neck. This makes it great for taking outside - I have used it to take wildlife pictures as well as just having fun, so it is a really great buy. :)

Brilliant camera, wait for a special offer and then look after it!

I bought this camera 12 months ago for £100 on amazon. The price it is advertised at now is more than double that (£264.99). Therefore, my first recommendation is: WAIT FOR A SPECIAL OFFER! This is an amazing camera. We took it to New Zealand for a month's holiday and we've taken some of the most spectacular photos I've ever seen. For example, a perfect shot of a humpback whale breaching about 50 metres away, but because of the 10 x digital zoom, it has come out perfectly. There are numerous settings on the camera, including close up, night view, portrait and snow scene. There is also the option of taking video footage with sound. If you buy a good sized memory card, you can take thousands of photos and videos without running out of space. The anti- shake setting makes for awesome photos everytime, with no annoying blur. The camera is so simple, you can just use it as a point and press. To zoom in, it only takes one movement, and you don't use any quality. For a £100 camera, I would highly recommend this. However, I wouldn't recommend paying the current price for it, I'm sure that you can get a cheaper one if you wait for the right time, and if you've got £265 to spend on a camera, there are others out there now with higher MP and greater optical zoom. One more warning- devastatingly, I got this camera a tiny bit damp and it no longer works. I've been told it would cost £125 to mend. Well worth investing in a case or insurance to avoid this situation!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Great value for money

Before buying this camera we did quite a bit of research and all the reviews said that this camera was excellent value for the price tag but was concerned that the reviews were too good to be true.

They weren't, this camera has helped me and my boyfriend take photos that we would have never thought possible. I am very impressed with the image quality especially when using the zoom - there is little to no pixelation.

There are issues though, shooting speed is not particularly fast - you have to pre-empt the shot you want to take which isn't always possible. Its picture quality deteriorates quite considerbaly in low light and you need to take multiple shots to end up with an shot of recognisable features.

Finally the camera james / freezes on days when you take lots of pictures (weddings) at which point the only option is to turn the camera off which is annoying.

Overall however I would recommend this camera, it has helped me take some beautiful photos that I would have bought had I seen them in a store.

excellent camera for the price less than £120

Right where should I start I have had this camera for over 1 year now and cannot be without it anywhere I go I have to take this beauty with me. The only thing I can think of that is wrong with the camera is that I can't take it out when I go clubbing :(

with a 8.0 MP quality is more than enough to print top quality photo's There is a good optical zoom: 10 x that delivers high image quality when you need to zoom in on the most enjoyable moments of all Friend or Family.

this camera is also usable as a camcorder which can record for about 15 minutes on a 1gb memory card perfect for taking a video on a special moment in your families life like when your baby takes his/her's first steps.

When you buy the camera you would need to buy another memory xD Picture Card as only comes with built in memory also I would recommend you buying rechargeable batteries AA with the power of at least 2000mAh anything below this and the camera life wont last long.

The best thing I think is on this camera is Continuous Shooting Mode Which takes very fast and lots of photo's at one hold of the shoot button - so when there your child is sliding down a slide or running in the garden you can take continuous photo's at once and then you have more choices for the perfect shot

Easy access to pictures via USB cable and easy to use in house software (provided through CD) for general uploading and editing i.e. Cropping, Colour Balancing, Red Eye Removal etc.

Overall I would defo recommend anyone buying this camera it is so cheap and I still use it to this day

A great beginner camera which makes photography a lot more enjoyable for us beginners!

[Can I apologize now for the lack of correct photography terminology. I am a beginner and am still trying to understand the terminology]

I picked this camera up a few years back, when I wanted something that was a step up from the simple point and shoot digital cameras I was used to. This was just under £100 in Argos so was within the price range I was looking for and providing everything I wanted.

The camera itself comes boxed with the standard accessories; lens cap, neck strap, instruction manual, USB cable, software CD and the camera itself. Although there is no carry bag or memory card included, I suppose not many cameras come with those these days. The camera isn't the tiny cameras we are all used to; it is quite chunky and easy to get a good grip on, which was something I was looking for since I have lost tiny digital cameras in the past purely because I don't realise that it is in my bag. This camera isn't particularly heavy but it is heavier than a standard camera.

As a beginner, I wanted something which gave me those professional looking photos without too much technical jargon or techniques. With 8 million megapixels and a 10x optical zoom, this camera does just that. The camera is very sleek, sturdy and feels like you are holding something in your hand (this may sound weird but I hope you get what I mean, many digital cameras weigh next to nothing and you forget that you are holding a camera).

The camera comes with many different scene settings, from portrait and beach to sunset and museum. This is great for me since I don't really understand aperture and ISO so to be able to change a setting easily and have the camera do the rest was a huge advantage.

The S5800 comes equipped with a large, clear LCD screen which you can shoot photographs through or switch to EVF (Electronic View Finder) mode and shoot through the view finder which is great for getting the professional angle on a photograph. There is a spin dial on the top of the camera which allows you to select the mode which you wish to take photographs in. With everything from movie mode and picture stabilization to aperture and shutter priority modes, where the user sets either the aperture or shutter speed. Manual mode is also available where the user can set both the shutter speed and the aperture.

The optical zoom on the camera is amazing. There is a twisting knob on the shutter button which allows you to zoom in or out. I attended two concerts this year and was sat 20 rows back on the 2nd one and could get quality photographs which didn't make the performer look like a tiny doll! However when you are fully zoomed in, the photographs do start to lose some quality and some can end up blurred, but it still isn't too shabby! The movie mode is also very useful and produces very good quality videos from a camera. With a 1GB memory card you can expect around 20-25 minutes of video footage with this camera.

The S5800 also comes with a pop up flash which is very bright and can lighten any scene; however my flash has recently broken and pops up but doesn't hold itself up any more which is quite annoying. The camera takes four AA batteries which do last with the camera. I bought some cheap rechargeable batteries from Asda and use these as standard batteries are just too expensive and don't last that long.

The software which accompanies the camera is very easy to use and makes transferring your photographs to your computer almost effortless. If your computer comes with a slot for your memory card then you can also transfer your pictures manually rather than connecting the camera to your computer.

Overall, I love this camera and makes taking professional quality photographs a breeze!

Really good all round camera would be great for some nice holiday pics

I have been through a few digital cameras over the years, and don't get me wrong I no photographer, they are often only for family snaps and the like. Every previous camera had some kind of issue that stopped it being easy and simply. I had one that went through batteries every 10 minutes, one that was a pain to connect to the PC and one that have a poor screen on it.

This one was bought purely to take pictures of completed tattoos my wife had done. I wanted something that would be point and click but would take good quality pictures and keep the detail.

This camera has a lot of settings, I wont list them here, this is suppose to be an honest review not a cut and paste of the manual after all.

This deals with low light situations very well, and the macro mode (one we use often for small tattoos) is way beyond anything I had every used in the past.

While the camera isn't compact at all it find it feels better in your hand gives you more confidence in what you're doing.

The screen on the camera is very good quality as is the zoom. Also I like the SD cards as it means I can put them straight into my PC so no awkward software to use when I want to save the pictures or print them out.

For what I need this camera has been excellent, I am sure someone with more ability could use the manual settings and get some very respectable pictures with it.

Perfect for professionals, amateurs and the budding beginner

Having studied both Graphic Design and Photography and always been a keen artist with many a camera, I asked Santa to buy me this amazing camera for Christmas 2007. Well it was between this and it's predecessor the S5700. On opening this I was exstatic that this is the one I got as it more than meets even my professional expectations.

The camera is not a compact, obviously, but is not huge and chunky either. I think it is quite cute and is almost mini SLR sized. It is black and comfy to hold, yet unexpectedly light. The camera is very durable and solid and can certainly pack a fair few punches.

There are a number of settings including landscape, portrait, night, fireworks, manual, macro, super macro, forced flash, supressed flash etc etc. You can change the colour of the image from normal to "chrome" or "black and white"- my personal favourite.
I have recently enjoyed playing with the exposure and aperture settings to produce some amazing HDR imagery that is mind blowing.

Most camera uses would opt for a camera with a lithium battery as camera taking AA batteries are renowned for having a poor battery life- well mine certainly doesnt. I bought cheap re-chargeable batteries from Wilkinsons and in proof of how long it took to go through the batteries- I went on holiday for 10 days to see my best friend get married, I took nearly 1000 photos and it only just began flagging the battery light. I even took 3 videos totalling 12 minutes. I spent more time changing my memory cards than I did the batteries.

The LCD screen is perfect in size, alot larger than the compact screens.

I very easily hooked up my camera to my Dad's 50 inch LCD tv with no problems and showed the whole family my pictures of my trip. We also have a dvd player with a usb port and this was easier to connect through too.

As an 8 mega pixel camera you are hard pushed to beat this kind of quality and in all general uses have no need to either. Even as a professional camera this camera works extremely well.

I did not have to load the software onto my Dads computer - even though the cd is provided, along with carry strap and a mere 26mb internal memory- but come on we all use memory cards now as this is simply insufficient.

The quality of the photos can be changed down from 8mb if required to allow for more images to be taken on your memory card- if you are short of room.

Although fuji do not openly list any accesories to go with this amazing piece of kit I have found so many I do not know where to start.
Digitaltoy has a full range of tripods- which fix easily to the underside of the camera- and also additional slave flashes, fish eye lenses, wide angle lenses, multi image filters, polarizers, super wide angle filters, macro lenses and I am sure much much more.

All in all I would say this camera is amazing and is most definately suitable for professional, amateur and even the budding beginners of photographers

A great camera for the budding photographer

I bought this for my son who has started photography at college and was told it was the best for the amount of money. It cost £120 from Asda when we bought it but you can get decent deals out there.

The camera is black and quite chunky but quite light. It feels very solid and my son has dropped it 4 times and it isnt even scratched, so it is durable.

The settings on it are multiple including macro, super macro, landscape, portrait, manual ( you can set the aperture and white balance to take your perfect photo ), shake reduction, video camera to take movies, natural light, and to special modes named special 1 and special 2.

It has a 2.5 inch lcd screen which is a good size to view through. it is also a 8 megapixel camera. It has 10 x optical zoom. It has auto focus (area, multi and centre).

The internal memory is 26mb but this can be expanded with an xd or sd card which you can easily buy.

It requires 4 x AA batteries. It comes with a lens cap, shoulder strap, AV cable, USB cable, and a CD rom.

This is a brilliant camera with loads of features and it is very professional looking camera. For the money this is an excellent buy. I would recommend this camera to anyone who is on a photography course or an amateur photographer.
