A Great for Beginners (HP Photosmart C618)

Advantages: Easy to use, quality

Disadvantages: Not support IBM microdrive

The camera has enough little sizes (127,5 е 71,5 е 56,5 mm) and weights about 300 g (without battery). It uses 1/2.7" CCD matrix with resolution 2.11 megapixels. Maximum picture size is 1600 x 1200 pixels.

Standart kit includes:

- NiMH battery (optional AC Adapter ~ $80),
- cables: TV-out,USB,
- Software: Digita Desktop Software, HP Photo Imaging Software 2.0, ArcSoft PhotoImpression & PhotoMontage,
- CompactFlash card 16 Mb type II (not support IBM microdrive),
- case and strap,
- manuals.

Camera has 2:1 optical zoom (by Pentax)and 2:1 digital zoom. Optical zoom is very good, but I think 2:1 is not enough for this price.

Camera has two modes: automatic and manual. In manual mode you can control shutter
speed (from 1/1000 to 4 seconds), aperture, ISO setting (100 or 200), delay timer (10s)
and metering (from 100 mm to endless). LCD (2,0” - 130338 pixels) are placed on the back. The zoom, menus and navigation are all intuitive.

Output format - JPEG (EXIF) and TIFF. Camera not support output video. Included software (especially,HP Photo Imaging Software 2.0) to allow you to do with yours photos a lot.

Finally, I think the HP PhotoSmart C618 a very good buy for beginners, for professional this camera is required improvements (support IBM microdrive need certainly).
