Advantages: Massive screen. Easy to use. Top quality images and large video capability.

Disadvantages: Lens protector can open by itself. Annoying noise on video when zooming. Position of lens.

Looking for a camera under £200 with a good size screen and at least 6 megapixels I plumped for the HP R727, and what a good choice I made!

The good bits:
Screen - The 2.5" colour screen is incredible. Nice and bright and easily viewable in just about any light conditions.

Photos - 6.2 megapixels really shows with some great images on my PC. I'm yet to transfer any images to physical photographs so cant comment on their quality.

Video - This is where I was really impressed. The quality of video on this camera is getting towards that of a video camera quality. Being used to running videos back on my PC in tiny boxes on the screen, it was almost a shock when I played back my first video to discover I can view them at full screen at 1024x768 res.

Features - All the features I could ever want are there on an intuitve menu system. These include loads of different shooting options, timer, auto red-eye removal that works really well, burst photos, image advice, slideshow, audio clips to images, artistic effects, borders, rotation and cropping, panoramic views.

Battery life - Battery life is fantastic, lasting for days of medium use including photos, flash and video.

Other - Camera makes good use of one touch buttons to compliment it's well organised menu. These include flash, closeup, photosmart (sharing) and video.

The bad bits:
In comparison there's not that many, but I have a few niggles.

The lens is automatically covered/uncovered but a sliding metal disc as the camera is turned on and off. On occasion I've found this disc can uncover the lens through movement inside the case (not included). It hasnt resulted in any scratching yet, but it's a concern.

Due to the position of the lens I have had to be careful to keep my fingers clear when holding the camera in both hands. However having the lens high up on the chassis made taking photos at a better angle easier when shooting through crowds etc.

The autofocus and particularly the zoom appears to be quite noisy. Not a problem during use but makes quite a racket during video playback.

Summary: A great camera packed with features, massive screen and great video capability.
