If it wasn't for its environmental features, the DC5000 from Kodak would be very much a 'me too' product. It certainly isn't an entry-level product but, on the other hand, it doesn't boast the three-megapixel CCD found on much of the competition at this sort of price. With waterproofing still very much a novelty feature on digital cameras, you end paying the price of a non-waterproof top-end consumer camera for this 2. 1-megapixel model. However, if you're an outdoor user, this is undoubtedly cheaper than buying an ordinary camera and having to write it off after a few weeks. According to Kodak, the DC5000 will withstand heavy rain and splashes ...

If you are looking for camera that is built well and hold up to the rigors of nature then this is it. It fairly large but build to keep out the water and dirt. I have seen a picture of it being showered off but have not tried this yet. It has a 2 mege pixel resolution and a good zoom 30mm - 60mm with built in flash and bright LCD ...

all in all it was excellent value for money 2 years ago, and still compares favourably with new models. I don't know whether it is still available, but I can truly recommend it. The Kodak battery charger/mains converter is extremely expensive for what it is, so I have to use many batteries! But, I think that is a problem with most digital cameras - on average, I can take and download about 50 shots with one set of batteries, so I guess it is not as bad as some. ...
