Advantages: Unlimited video mode. Used inexpensive Compact Flash media
Disadvantages: clunky, heavy, pictures are horrible, videos in odd Quicktime format, battery life is short
I can't believe that after 5 years, I still own this thing. Perhaps it's a testament to the build quality?
I remember shelling out almost $1000 CDN for this. That's about £450 in 2001. You can get these now for a tenth of that.
In it's day the 3600 was a decent buy due to the 2x optical zoom and video mode with sound. Other manufacturers were trying to convince us that digital zoom was good too (it's not) and short 30 second movies with no sound would be okay (they're not).
The two million plus pixels (2.2 to be exact) was a decent resolution at the time. Bear in mind that camera resolution today isn't the sole selling point anymore. Consider what kind of pictures you'll be printing, because you'll be wasting disk space on your computer if storing multi-megapixel images and printing them as tiny 4 by 6's.
The camera was also very solidly built to the point of being heavy to hold.
Battery life using alkalines or even the rechargeable lithium battery packs that came with Kodak's docking station didn't last at all. The only relief I got from battery changing came when I invested in a 2 hour quick charger and bought some 2100 mAh NiMH rechargeables.
Would I recommend it if you found a bargain on Ebay? Nope. Picture quality was never good. For a similar price get yourself a decent Canon or Fuji. To be honest I wish this camera would die so I could find an excuse to buy a new one.
Summary: This camera is da bomb (like I wish it would explode so I can get a different one)
