Kodak Easyshare C190
Advantages: compact, 12MP, 5x Optical zoom
Disadvantages: Relatively heavy and lags behind other newer models in terms of image quality.
This Kodak Easyshare is a great camera to use with high specification at a cheap price, lets run down the features.
Firstly, the camera is 12MP, that's 12 million pixels of gorgeous picture quality. Long gone are the days where anything above 4MP was good enough for the casual photographer, these days 9 or more are required, so this camera really ticks all the boxes in this area. The image quality that is output by the lens is great if a little ill defined in parts. But the great 5x optical zoom allows photos to be taken from a distance of small objects of animals. The image can be taken in the standard ratio or in TV 16:9 so that the image fills the screen of your HDTV, almost the de facto method of viewing images now. You can also scale down the resolution to take up less space on the memory card.
Secondly, the design is great, with a 3" high resolution screen, viewing the images is crisp and gives a fair reflection of what they will look like on your PC or when printed out for best quality. The camera is small and compact, with a retractable lens and easy to use button. Setting available include low-res but respectable video, anti-shake, movement and close up. One particular highlight for me is the panoramic output of the camera, allowing every bit of a mountain landscape to be stitched together into one contiguous photograph. The flash is pretty standard and the only qualm I can have in this area is it is a little larger than other compacts in its price range.
Overall this camera puts out a great image for so little expenditure and the manufacturers can be commended for there focus on quality over gimmicky features. The easyshare button has not been tested as I do not have the appropriate kit/ see no need for it; I just plug in the USB lead and copy the photos across.
Summary: Great piece of kit for the price.
