Advantages: Good quality photos, superb HD video

Disadvantages: No external battery charger, lens sticks out when out of juice

I purchased one of these as a gift for my daughter. This is always difficult for me, because I use a digital SLR and always find myself looking for high end features, forgetting that my daughter will only want a point and shoot. This camera was chosen because it seemed to be very compact, had a good brand and also featured HD video capture, so a bit of future proofing for the likes of YouTube (where you will find some HD footage taken with one of these it you search).

The M1033 delivered well on the following fronts;
Size - this is very compact and can be taken everywhere easily.

Picture quality - very very good, nice colours, no purple fringing, blurred edges.

HD video - this was better than I thought, very very clear. Sound is not fantastic, but more than acceptable. You can even zoom in whilst capturing the video.

Build - this feels realy sturdy. Although early days, it certainly feels as though it'll last.

Menus - very very easy to navigate.

Auto - It has a smart mode that select the best setting automatically. For a younger user it makes it foolproof.

The M1033 has the following negatives;
The battery is a Lion, so if you need a spare expect about £20.

No charger supplied, the cable is, but it means you have to charge the battery whilst it is in the camera. This makes it hard to charge a spare. Another £10 on ebay sorted this problem, but it should be in the box.

Lens sticking out - Well what I mean by this is that on two ocassions, the battery has run out whilst taking photos. The M1033 did not retract the lens, so it was left exposed until the battery was recharged.

Overall though a really good camera, nice quality.

Summary: Almost perfect, but still well worth the money
