Kodak Easyshare V1233
Advantages: A great family canera.
Disadvantages: Digital zoom is poor.
The 'Kodak Easyshare V1233' is a small stylish and easy to use camera. We bought this camera about two years ago and have been very happy with it. My wife is more into taking pictures than I am and my sister has a much more professional camera from when she was studying photography, all of us enjoy using the V1233.
The V1233 takes up to 12MP photo's which is more than adequate for home use. It has a 3X optical zoom and 5X digital, the optical zoom works very well and very quickly but using the digital zoom dramatically reduces the quality of the photo and makes it a lot harder to take a good photo. I would recommend just using the optical zoom and to use the computer to digitally zoom in on photo's
The camera uses digital image stabilization and it is the first camera we have owned that does. A lot more of our photo's have been successful thanks to this feature. The screen shows either a green, amber or red logo for how much the image stabilization had to be used, most photo's with red are no good but there are thankfully few of those.
32MB of internal memory seems entirely pointless, there must be some reason that this camera comes with any internal memory but I do not know what it is. You can pick up 4 or 8MB SD cards really cheap on Amazon at the moment and they often have deals on in the supermarkets.
There is perfect touch technology built into the camera but I find it a lot easier to use it on the computer. The 'Easyshare' stuff on the camera is really not my thing and I prefer to manage my photo's in a more traditional way but I can certainly see why some people would really get on with it.
The V1233 comes with a replaceable rechargeable battery, we have not had to replace the battery since we got the camera and it has seen some pretty intensive use. There is HD video capture available on the camera, it is easy to use and creates decent videos in the MP4 video format. I still prefer using a video camera for video and a camera for photo but if you do not have a video camera this is good enough.
The screen on the back of the camera is very clear. The face detection technology and continuous focus really help to ensure your photo's are as good as they can be. There are 22 different photo taking modes but most of the time we just leave it on auto and that seems to do the trick. When you set the camera to burst mode it only takes up to 3 photo's and I would prefer it if there was also a continuous shot option however you can easily take still shots from the video.
The V1233 is a great all round family camera. When we got it it was half price from Argos for about £80 and I would say it was definitely worth it. If I were to buy a newer model I would happily go for Kodak again, 12MP is fine but I would choose something with a higher optical zoom.
Summary: A great camera.
