Advantages: Small, cheap, almost complete package

Disadvantages: Screen poor in strong light

On a recent trip to Sri Lanka the old Fuji gave up the ghost as did a JVC everio at the end of the holiday, the latter being repaired now. To be fair I was not the only one with camera trouble, probably the heat and humidity. So since I had to replace the old Fuji a lot of research went into the purchase of a new stills camera and the Kodak V1273 won out, why ? price, under £100 at Comet, the JVC cost seven times this amount and still failed, but the most important reason was when you are bobbbing about on a boat up river or on the back of an elephant and want that all important shot of wildlife have you time to twiddle knobs, set settings, read the instuction manual because you have forgotten how to use the camera in the eight weeks since you last used it, no.
Good points: so easy to use your grandmother could use it, picture quality excellent, quick start up time, buttons such as there are well placed for my big hands, touch screen is the way to go and video almost as good as JVC camcorder although the sound is only mono. Small , light and comes with all you need except an sd card which is needed if off for a long shoot for the day.
Not so good: A bit point and guess as screen poor in strong light and touch screen eats battery but spare only £18.

As automatic as you want it to be, you can manually set just about anything if required and then see the shot run into the trees when you are ready to take the picture.

Well built, metal body and it's a job to see who makes it as very small "Kodak" name on the front and black on black, bit like owning a Ford with the badges removed. Good easy upload to pc, just puts pics in dated album in a flash and although the software is geared to selling you prints it does a good job on the rest. Back to Sri Lanka in a few weeks so I hope this one stands the test, will update if not.

Summary: Could afford to buy a spare at this price
