 Minolta Dimage 7 Digital Camera

Minolta Dimage 7

Description: Model ID 2766-101 / Minolta DiMAGE 7 - Digital camera - prosumer - 5.2 Mpix - optical zoom: 7 x - supported memory: CF - black, metallic ... more
Minolta Dimage 7 ... silver / Featured on the new DiMAGE 7 CCD boasts 5.24 million pixels, the highest number available in consumer digital cameras. Even when cropping a digital image file the image can retain an impressive resolution. Each pixel in the CCD is relatively large, providing a wide dynamic range. In dark conditions the CCD automatically turns up the gain to enable focusing without the use of an AF illuminator. DiMAGE 7 has a high-power optical centerpiece: an all-glass 7x zoom Minolta lens that has the flexibility to shoot wide-angle landscapes to intimate portraits using the telephoto setting. DiMAGE 7's zoom range is equivalent to a 28mm to 200mm lens in 35mm format. This new Minolta digital camera features a new, high-performance lens class for digital cameras: Minolta GT lenses. This provides high-image quality with minimum chromatic aberration and curvilinear distortion, and high resolution, especially on the high end of the spectrum. The DiMAGE 7's lens achieves high performance with 16 glass elements in 13 groups. It has two AD (anomalous dispersion) glass elements and two aspheric elements, resulting in sharp, detailed images at all focal lengths.

DiMAGE 7 features Minolta's proprietary CxProcess, a new image processing technology that provides clear and natural images. CxProcess balances extremes by controlling sharpness, color reproduction, tonal gradation and noise to optimize results. The camera features a 12-bit A/D conversion that provides a fine tonal gradation, with deep shadows, brilliant highlights and millions of colors. This delivers exquisite details in portraiture: smooth complexion, rich shadows and luminous highlights. DiMAGE 7's exclusive Digital Hyper Viewfinder provides photographers with clear images, even under bright light. With its reflective ferroelectric LCD viewfinder and a visual resolution equivalent to almost 220,000 pixels, DiMAGE 7 is the first consumer digital camera with such a sophisticated optical device. The variable position viewfinder can be tilted up to 90 degrees for added flexibility and creativity in shooting. The Digital Hyper Viewfinder allows the photographer to simultaneously monitor the image and camera settings. DiMAGE 7's 4x electronic magnification can enlarge the central area of the image in the viewfinder during manual focusing - an important feature when image sharpness is critical, especially with close-up photography. The Digital Hyper Viewfinder and the LCD monitor offer a graphic-user interface with a full array of shooting information. The eyepiece sensors detect if the Digital Hyper Viewfinder is being used, and switch the display between the viewfinder and the monitor accordingly. The camera's controls are optimally laid out for ease of use. Frequently used functions are placed in a simple, function-dial system.

... plastic plugs, when opened provide power, video out and remote facilities. There's no power adapter supplied as standard, but these can be bought for £30 or so, I'd say it's almost essential to have one especially for transferring images, which can drain batteries. Underneath is a metal tripod mount, pretty standard. Whilst this could be a very lengthy review, I'll try and condense it a little, touch on it's strengths and weaknesses, and throw in some essential technical d...more

Crowned Review Minolta Dimage 7: 1,769,472 more pixels than my last camera (1488 words)

Rating:

Let me start by saying, this is no camera for the novice. If you're the point n click type person, you might as well stop reading right now. OK, so if you are still reading then I'm assuming you treat your photography quite seriously, you may even class yourself as a semi-pro. The Minolta Dimage 7 isn't a brand new camera (it's been around since about July 2001), but it's worth mentioning as they crop up second-hand a fair bit these days. It's original price in the UK was a staggering £999, but typically expect them to go for around £300 now on Ebay. Even for it's age, ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Dont picture it Dimage it! (1136 words)

Rating:

I have been looking for a new Digital Camera and after much deliberation I had decided either on the Fuji Film 6900Z or the Minolta Dimkage 7. Both cameras are around the same specification, both have a 6x+ Zoom and 5+ mega pixels, although the 6900Z is higher it is only 3 mega pixels which are interpolated, see my digital camera review for meaning. The Dimage 7 has a optical zoom of 7.1x and also has a digital zoom of 2x where as the Fuji Film is 6x. The thing which swung me towards the Dimage 7 was not the technical specifications though but the fact that the Dimage 7 takes normal AA batteries and uses Compact Flash memory, where as the Fuji Film ...  Read the complete review
