Advantages: compact, user friendly, amazing pics..

Disadvantages: batt life but that is common for most digi cams

first of all, my review here is abt giving the inside scoop of the camera based on first hand experience, i mean, if u wanted to find out what functions and features this camera has, that is not difficult, this is very accessible info available on many websites and there will be no need for me to pad up my review with such information.

why did i choose this camera?

succinctly put, or um rather camply, it takes cool pics. hahahah small wonder it's called coolpix 3100. now i'll push on with the review...

went to a well known store and spoke with some staff including the technician. i wanted to know what the common problems of digital cameras were and what brands had the most problems. what they said changed my mind abt the canon i was thinking of getting, it's a great brand but it seems to have a few recurring problems.

there's an online site that does a 'comparometer' betwn pictures digital cameras can take, i liked the nikon as the picture it takes does not have a yellowish tint to it as compared to some other reputable cameras. the picture was clear and sharp, and has very true colours. check this out for the comparometer.

price wise, shop ard, i got mine in singapore, it was a real bargain for 200 quid. with a free 64 MB memory card, but no other accessories. try online sites, they have ongoing sales for different products and prices range from 250 to 300. also look out for bundling, some do free tripods, camera case, memory cards, so take this into account. others do VAT free.

usage...

very very user friendly. there's a good variety of modes for different purposes like taking stills of moving objects. these are located on a wheel button so there won't be fumbling ard the menu to change modes. just a simple twist does the job.

don't like the half shutter to focus then full shutter to

take the picture requirement. it's not a major inconvenience though... one big issue, get your objects to stay still when taking the picture in manual or autofocus mode or it WILL come out blurry.

for video clips, there is no sound recording for this camera. personally i haven't got much use for that otherwise i'd have taken a camcorder.

problems.

short battery life. this cam is compatible with normal AA batts but my word, it drains the power like there's no tomorrow. i'd say not to use AA batts unless it's an emergency, or if u are filthy rich and can afford to keep on replacing them. rechargeable batts come with the set, and the batt life of these batts will increase with subsequent use and recharging.

bit of experience for buyers.. i used AA batts when i got home with the set, and after 15 mins it was flat. i put in new ones and it wouldn't work! i thought oh great faulty set, of all people why me?! now i've got to get a replacement... rang uo the nikon branch they said thats the first time they've heard of this problem and recommended that i get a replacement. so i went down to the shop in a huff, the sales staff put in their rechargeable batts and the cam worked. ugh. maybe my new batts were faulty. but i'm using the rechargeable batts now and there's not been a single problem. so if u run into the same problem, don't fret, charge the batts that came with the set and use them, it should work.


why i adore it.

i'm not an expert at digital photography, or well, any sort of photography at that!i'm a point- and- shoot person, and this cam serves my purpose perfectly! i wanted a cam that would give me good quality pictures even when printed out and i have seen comparisons of print outs at the store. this one is truly the best and the clearest. not onlly are the print outs amazing, the quality of downloaded pics are yummy too! i'd post a picture
to prove it but i haven't got round to finishing tinkering with my dooyoo stuff yet. will do soon, thats a promise, gotta prove this cam is worth every cent! with the other features and functions, it allows for creativity and experimentation, oh feel the smugness when one has taken a great picture, oh yeah it's the photographer not the camera hahahah.

t is nifty and compact, light, and uses a CF card, which is the cheapest mode of storage. i can also use AA batts when i have to, which is always a good thing in case of emergencies.
