Advantages: reliable and easy to use
Disadvantages: small grainy screen, battery life
My family has always used a camera when going on holiday to record those memorable moments, however its has always been with the traditional camera. Sending of the film and a week later he pictures turn up and you can put them away and look at them whenever. We are not the most technologically advanced family out there and it was with great reluctance we succumbed to the Digital fever and bought a digital camera.
Nikon Coolpix 4100 was bought for a very competitive price, with a good deal including rechargeable batteries and charger and other necessities, like a case. I can't remeebr the price what it cost but all camera prices are coming down so they will be cheaper now. The camera is a very basic camera and you are able to take pictures and also record short videos on it. The transportation of pictures onto the computer is very easy with Windows Live Photo Gallery.
The standard of pictures taken always seem a not very good standard when looking and viewing using the screen on the camera. However when viewed on the computer the pictures are extremely good. The viewing screen is also very small when compared with other cameras and the image is often grainy. However it is one of the more older cameras, but has not failed us yet.
The camera is very reliable and has enabled us to take pictures of those priceless moments, be it family weddings, celebrations or just pictures for E-bay. I recently was able to photograph a coin for e-bay and zoom in and get a great view of the date and inscriptions on the coin. hen viewed on the computer the images were even clearer and i just hope we get some bids on the coin!
The camera is very easy to use for the basic functions. However I can never remember the complicated way of getting the self photograph taker to work, like when there is a 10second delay. The camera necer seems to want to work for me!
One draw back is the amount of battery life in the camera. We were able to get rechargeable batteries with our camera but if you were not using these the camera would gobble up a large amount! Also, the actual camera charger does not charge the camera up that much so make sure the charger is taken with you on holiday.
The size of the camera is nice and compact making it easy to carry round and slip into those bags. The weight of the camera is 201g meaning it does not put too much extra weigh into your bag or pocket.
I wouldn't actually recommend this camera for someone to buy now, as being several years old, it is clearly going to be behind some of the latest models. However i would clearly recommend the company NIKON and would definitely purchase my next camera from them quite happily.
When looking to buy a new camera i would make sure I try as many different brands as possible and I urge you to try out a Nikon before purchasing any. I was not disappointed in anyway with my purchase.
But all said and done, I still do prefer the old, traditional cameras with the printouts. With all Digital Camera a decent printer has to be bought and the old film method with Kodak etc worked perfectly. Nevertheless, Nikon has served me well.
