Advantages: Good Quality, Fairly Cheap, Easy To Use
Disadvantages: Doesn't Always Work When Plugged In To Computer
The Nikon Coolpix comes with a rechargable battery, which lasts a substantial amount of time (it can easily be used for a day out), and only takes 2 hours to recharge fully. The battery charger is supplied with european and UK cables, which are easily changed. This means the camera is ideal to take on holiday. The compact flash card is easily removed, with just a slide of a cover and the press of a button to remove it. The camera has a 16 shot multi-shot mode, which means it takes 16 shots and fits it on to one picture. This is ideal for fast-moving objects. The LCD screen is very fine, and didn't have any dead pixels. It adjusts quickly. The autofocus works well, but this is just as well since there isn't a manual focus. There is a 3x optical zoom, and a further 2.5x digital zoom. These are useful for taking shots of things that are quite a distance away, or for getting up close with objects. The picture quality is excellent, and pictures print well, although obviously they work out better on photo paper than normal copier paper. The camera is very easy to use, as there are several modes for taking pictures in various conditions, such as portrait, sunset, snow and party. There is a good TV-out function which simply transfers the image on the LCD screen to the TV, which is good for showing your pictures to friends without having to go through the computer, using the slideshow function. However, as you'd expect it does have some bad points. These include: It loses time and date each time battery is removed. This is annoying because if you don't set it again, there is an annoying little clock in the top corner that constantly flashes, and getting to the clock setting mode is pretty awkward. No lense cover or case supplied. This means that is is easy to damage, and although the lense only opens out when the camera turns on, it would be nice for a
case to have been supplied. The compact flash card supplied is only 8Mb, which is annoying as on the top quality mode the card can only hold 8 pictures. The camera doesn't always work when it's plugged in to the computer, so it usually has to be rebooted after being plugged in.
