I have a Coolpix 950 for more than a year now and have been really satisfied with it. First it is easy to manipulate - i was used to normal camera and the coolpix is somehow really close to the way a camera usually operate. The body of the camera is made in 2 main pieces that rotates. The right part is the video screen and where the buttons for the settings are. The left part is the lens and flash. The Coolpix 950 now looks like a Nikon camera with its jet black magnesium alloy body and the large, rubberized finger grip. The grip, shutter release and control switch look like they came off the Nikon F5 35mm camera. The Coolpix 950's body is "sculptured" and feels rock solid in your hands. The Nikon 950 has got a terrific macro/closeup capability. In any focal length the macro function can be used to get closeups but there is a special "sweet spot" about halfway to telephoto where the lens will focus down to about 0.8 inches. I splashed out after reading several different magazines and articles for Digital Cameras. Being ignorant to types of photographic elements, I just wanted something to point, shoot and download. This I found with the Nikon. Not saying this doesn't offer other advandced features, its just I haven't mastered them yet. The build quality is excellent and is very easy to use by the complete novice (me). The big benefit I found was the viewfinder, good size and clarity for taking and viewing shots.
