      Great always ready camera

I picked this up on sale in Japan around 4 years ago as I forgot the charge-pack for my fuji finepix.

I wasn't expecting much for the price but it really did well.

It does really well in most lights other than capturing neon lights/illuminations/fireworks. It holds the exposure for too long so just ends up blurry.

It has a really good flash for taking pictures of your friends at night, just anything gin the background may be a little grey.

It is also very robust, I dropped it down concrete steps and into a puddle and only the top came off, I slotted it back on and everything works apart from the zoom, I can see inside that the pin for it is misaligned so with a lot of care this could probably be fixed too. I have dropped this so many times and just thrown it around my bag and let it get bashed in my pocket and you can't even tell, looks as good as new and still works fine several years later.

It takes batteries rather than a charge pack, and a SD card. Both of which can be got cheap and easy. The USB cable is proprietary but I just use a SD card reader.

The internal memory is very small and only for testing though, only room for 1-5pics depending on the resolution! Only way to get them off is to use the provided cable and software.

I use rechargeable batteries in this and the charge will hold for a full days worth of taking pictures :)
Beware taking video eats up the memory really quickly though, doesnt seem to effect battery much which is good. You also cant have the flash on for video.

8MP is more than high enough for any day to day or holiday snaps for the average user, infact I often switch to 5MP to get more photos (who needs 8MP that makes a huge photo you will never use)

It has many 'auto' option pre-selects or an 'easy auto' option to just do it all for you. Or you can tweak many of the settings manually, ISO, brightness, colour, flash, anti-red eye etc.

Very trendy camera, Just had one fault

I bought this digi cam for my birthday and payed only £50 for it on sale from www.very.co.uk . I think it looks great and its very trendy. I loved taking pictures on it for a couple of weeks. the picture quality is amazing. Very good and all the bottons are easy to use. After about 5 weeks i went to turn my camera on via the top button and the camera lense got stuck ! It would take me about 3-4 times to press the ON button and it kept sticking then would release. after a while of this doin the same thing it totaly stuck one day and wouldnt open at all. i tried to pull it out myself but no luck! I only had the camera 2month and it was totaly broken because o this fault. If this didnt happen i would of been happy but i spose its one in 100 chances or what ever. i would still recommend this item ! X

A great camera for a bargain price!

Coolpix. This is a perfectly good camera for a very reasonable price; you can get it online for around only £60 which is extremely good! At this price, if I'm honest, I wasn't expecting a fabulous camera. I just needed a camera I could play around with and take out when I was with my friends, but it surprised me with how good the quality of the pictures are!

It is a nice size, the perfect size for a digital camera when you are on the go, it is a similar size to most digital cameras which is good when you are looking for a cheap case. It comes with:
-Batteries (they weren't rechargeable but I replaced them with some rechargeable ones)
        -CD
        -Instruction booklet
        -USB cable

This camera has an 8.0 megapixel lens, which is a reasonable amount, it may not be the be the very best available, but it gives you a really good quality picture, and most people don't need or want 12 megapixel lenses. The other great thing about this camera is that it has an optical zoom, so even when you zoom in the quality of the picture isn't compromised.
Overall, this is a great camera for anyone and everyone, especially as we are getting closer to Christmas, I think it would be a great gift for someone who wants to start taking pictures, or a teenager. It is available on amazon for just £55.75, which is an absolute bargain!

          Nikon best qualit /price camera

Last summer my Kodak EasySho C913 fell in the sand and was "out of service"... So I had to buy a new one and I took the Nikon Coolpix L21.

          In the box you have:
          - the quick start munal
          - the user's manual on CD
          - the warranty
          - the Nikon software suite

When I took out for the first time my Coolpix in my hands I was surprised by the weight. It's heavier than my old Kodak but I have a better feeling with it.
Once you have insert some battery and a memory card, push it on you will hear a nice little "song" and you're ready to take some photos.

Above you have the on/off button and trigger with the zoom. Near the LCD screen you have 4 little buttons, one to chose the scene menu, one to see your allready done photos, one for the menu and one for the trash. You also have a big "OK" button with a 4 directions button around it.

In the menu you have usual option set your photos options and one for the settings.

Before you take a photos you must choose a scene profile. You can choise Automatic, Automatic simplified, video clip, portrait or a specific scene like food,landscape,sports,... .

I'm always in automatic mode except when I go fishing I set it on landscape mode. Push a little bit on the trigger wait 1 second for the focus then push a little harder and you have your photo. Push the "play" button to see if your photos is good or not.

I'm really happy that I bought that Nikon because it takes nice photos and the price is not too expensive.

Don't forget too buy a memory card.

Great Camera! I Recommend it to Anyone searching for a cheap easy to use high quality camera!

          ---------------Introduction---------------
I am an art major in college and if I want to do well I need a good camera. And being in college I cannot afford to buy an expensive camera for $500. I have a few other cameras but none of them live up to my expectations as well as the Nikon Coolpix L21 does.

          ---------------Advantages---------------
When I first got this I was very excited because I have heard other great reviews about this camera, however I was skeptical because it is always too good to be true. But with this camera it was not too good to be true, it was really a great camera. One feature that I really love about it is its resolution of pictures. Being a somewhat cheap camera I was not expecting a high resolution quality pictures. But the quality of the pictures this camera takes is close to the quality of a $500 camera. Another great feature about it is it's build, it has a great build to it. I have dropped it a few times in my room already and it hasn't even received a scratch. This is very uncommon for a camera, I know! Finnaly another good quality about this camera is that it was super easy straight out of the box to use. I am always on the go and I do not ever have much time to set something like this up. But I just took it out of the box and almost immediately it started to work!

          --------------Disadvantages---------------
Although It had many advantages, this camera had some disadvantages to it as well. One being the functions or controls of it. When I tried to switch the flash on, I had to look in the manual on how to do it. On my other cameras there is a button to switch flash on, but this camera doesn't which I find rather annoying. Another function that I had to search for was the macro shooting. It took me a week before I found out that this camera even had a macro shot on it, but when I did find out it was well worth the long time I was clueless. Other than that this camera does not have many disadvantages to it.

          ----------------Summary---------------
This camera is an all around great camera, except for one disadvantage of the controls on it. Although that disadvantage does not even come close to the advantages of this camera! All around great camera and I recommend it to anyone searching for a cheap good quality camera.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Reasonable inexpensive camera

Let me start by saying the Nikon Coolpix L21 is not a cam for professional photographers, not even semi-pros but if what you want is a decent and inexpensive compact, that's the right purchase. It looks pretty, you can handle it with ease and it's available in 3 colors: black, silver and pink that's the one I chose for me.

The cam is a 8MP model with flash, its size is really small 9.2 x 6.1 x 2.8 cm and weighs just 169 grams with the cool capability of recording short videos in 640 x 480 or 320 x 240 formats. The real upside for your shots is the optical zoom that allows me to zoom the way I want (not the way the cam wants..) and this is not always quickly achievable with a digital one. Btw, the digital zoom that comes with it is a 4x and the ISO range is 80 to 1600 in Auto mode. You can use a USB 2 cable to connect it to your mac or PC if you're a computer guy. The internal memory is 19 MB therefore you won't be able to do much if you don't insert an external SD expansion in the right memory slot. Just remember the battery is NOT rechargeable so you need to buy standard carbon ones.

Additional standard functions will be comfortable for inexperienced photographers like me. You get the automatic selection of the scenes, intelligent portrait, auto recognition of your face, eye correction and other stuff.

Finally you'll surely love the brilliant display that is a 2.5" LCD TFT (230k x). As I said, it's recommended if you're not looking for anything too professional, but affordable and reasonably efficient.

              Brilliant for the price

I was very lucky to win a black Nikon Coolpiz L21 in a competition online, but you can pick them up for around £65 - a great price for an all round camera, starter camera, for a teenager, or a family.

Inside the box you get the camera, the rechargable battery, the charger, CD and instruction manual along with a lanyard and USB cable. You don't get a camera case but it is quite a standard size and I found it fitted into a cheap case from Home Bargains, a snip at 99p. If you do want a branded leather Coolpix case these are £14.99 or you can pick them up on Ebay.

So, the camera itself - it looks fantastic - they come in a range of colours so you can really tailor them but it's worth noting the colours are not interchangable - what you buy is what you get so maybe go for a more neutral colour - I don't think my husband would have borrowed my camera had it been bright pink!

              So, the specs:

It has an 8.0 megapixel lens so the pictures whilst not at the highest end of the spectrum are still very sharp and very clear whether indoor or out, as the flash is very effective. The only loss you would see is if you were printing the pictures in a very large size - not something the average person would do. It's perfect for every day shots, family shots, holiday snaps, and for printing out either on your home printer or using a photo printing service.

It has a 3.6x optical zoom which means close ups can be taken with no loss of quality (digital zoom can be a bit pixelly).

The camera has a range of nifty features in auto mode - anti blur technology reduces the chances of a shaky or blurred shot, and smile recognition means the camera actually recognises a smile and focuses on the face (or multiple faces) to ensure the subject is captured! It's amazing.

The video camera feature is good quality with high quality sound too.

The camera holds up to 32GB of memory on an SD/SDHD card, I have an 8GB in mine which is more than enough. I don't tend to use the USB cable as I find it so much easier to use a card reader, I'm sure most people are the same.

The camera is so easy to use - press the power button, point and click. Zoom is via a small lever on top. It's an absolute doddle and if you're familiar with cameras at all it's literally a pick up and go situation. Even if you are not at all tech savvy this has to be one of the most user friendly cameras I have ever used. It's so easy to use, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for an older person or someone not technical, or as a first camera.

Picture quality as I've said is great and it's easy to get the pictures off the camera and onto Facebook, Flickr, CD etc. It's given some great results in macro mode (extreme close up) and in bright sunlight or dark environments.

This might not be a high end 12 megapixel camera but it never tries to be. As an all rounder at a great price it is absolutely spot on. It does everything it says on the tin, and for that I have to give it a 5/5. 100% highly recommended, if you have this on a list of possibles - move it right to the top - you won't find a better, more user friendly, high quality camera for the price.
