My wife bought this as a Birthday gift for me a couple of years ago. Since that time it has been my main camera and I have not looked back in terms of the other model that I used to use. My previous camera was a little too chunky and this one is a really sleek design that fits into my pocket with ease as it is approximately slightly smaller than a deck of cards.
The monitor at the back is a very large screen. This is great for viewing/deleting photos. The display on the monitor will take a bit getting used to as there is an array of indicators. The lens cover automatically opens when the camera is switched on this allows for less dust etc to get into the camera.
In the 'Focus and Shoot' mode taking pictures is easy and all that needs to be done is to literally point and shoot, even my three year old daughter can do it! There are many other modes and functions that can be accessed these include high sensitivity mode (low lighting), Macro mode (for objects close by), Scene mode (all different scenes such as beach/snow/parties/landscape/portraits). In all honesty I have predominantly used the 'focus and shoot' for my needs A because it's easy and B the picture quality is good enough to match my needs without resorting to the other modes. Having said that I believe they are great features and a real selling point for a more dedicated cameraman/women than me. The camera also has a self timer option for taking a self portrait picture, great for those family snaps!
The display will show the subject that is being taken and forms a frame around if it recognises a face. This is very novel but also allows you to be able to take a perfect picture as you have a reference point to work from.
Digital zoom and optical zoom are available on this camera and work really well for taking basic pictures. The main one that I generally use is digital zoom as that magnifies the subject up to 3 xs and this is normally sufficient to meet my needs. The digital zoom I have used less often as, even though it can magnify up to 12 x more, the picture quality is not as good as there is a slight deterioration.
Reviewing the photos in really easy and you can also view them as full pictures that can be magnified or you can view thumbnails of multiple pictures. It is also easy to delete the ones that you do not want.
Battery life is really good and there is an indicator on the screen to let you know when you are low. To charge the battery you have to plug it into an external battery charger that has a light indicator to let you know when it is ready.
Although I have not done this myself, this camera can also be connected to a printer so that pictures can be printed at home.
All in all, this camera has been an excellent purchase for me and my family. My favourite features are that it is lightweight and compact and at the same time it packs a punch in terms of technology and ease of use. I would definitely recommend this product.
I have had this camera about 2 years now and it is fantastic. It is very compact but not too small for big hands. It does video on it, and the quality is not bad seeing as its not a camcorder. There are different scenes on it ranging from 'Outdoor' to 'Portait' or 'Fireworks' so it sets it right for that scene. It is pretty easy to use, might need some getting used to to change scenes for some people but once you get to know it, it's easy. It has a zoom but I would say thats the only disadvantage, it doesnt seem to zoom in too far however, I would say that was the same with alot of compact cameras. The other amazing thing that it can do is panoramic, so you can do a whole stretch of landscape, it can be a little difficult but it is a pretty brilliant thing to try and do. It is a very reasonably priced camera, perfect for family photos or parties, just an all round use camera, apart from you wouldnt use it professionally. The battery is also really good, lasts ages and the battery comes out of the camera to be charged so you could get a replacement if it breaks.
This camera has been on the market for nearly two years now, which is when I purchased it. I have had great use out of this little camera, its slim affordable and easy to use.
Smaller than a deck or cards this was my main point for purchase was the size, I wanted something small that I could fit in my jeans pocket or a small bag but I still wanted good quality images, the s210 delivered on both these and many more. It did take a bit of perseverance getting use to the size, I ended up getting neck strap I was that afraid I was going to drop it!!
For those with larger hands don't let the smallness put you off the buttons are perfectly spaced and separated and easy to use for all hand sizes!!
8.1 megapixels is a great resolution for this small camera it gives you great quality sharp images. 3x optical zoom is great and image detail is sharp, however I did had a Panasonic lumix before and it had an exceptional zoom I think it was 8 or 10 optical, but it was about 3 times the size of this camera so what do you expect, so this did take a bit of getting use to. Image stabilization reduces camera shakes preventing that blurred image you often get particularly in lower light or windy conditions!! Another thing I love is that you can change the ISO to 2000. Creating a sharper more natural image particularly in low light conditions.
You may never have to look at those evil red eyes again with the in camera red eye fix. This feature automatically looks for occasions when you get red eye and automatically corrects.
Autofocus face priority is another great feature, this camera detects up 12, faces automatically and focuses the camera ready for picture, great tool for taking group pictures particularly with kids!!
The LCD is 2.5 inches, high resolution, with operating buttons sitting alongside it. The screen is a good size and images are clear it has an anti-reflection coating on the screen which has been very useful when outside on a sunny day I don't struggle to see the screen. Images on the LCD look very high contrast which sometimes makes me think I haven't taken a good image but it looks much better when I print or view them on my computer.
There are four main shooting modes, Auto, High ISO, Scene, and movie mode
Auto - all you have to do is point and shoot, and you will get focused well exposed images. In this mode you can still change some of the settings such as flash, ISO, focus area, colour options, exposure compensation and white balance. Once you have the required setting it really is idiot proof.
High ISO - if you are in a low light situation the camera automatically adjusts the ISO to help reduce blurred image.
Scenes - You have the choice of 15 scene modes, Landscape, portrait, sports, night portrait, sunset, museum, party/indoor, beach/snow, dusk/dawn, night, landscape, close-up, panorama assist, firework. Which covers most if not all events where you want to capture the moment on camera!! By selecting the appropriate mode the camera automatically makes the necessary adjustments required to ensure you get the best picture
Movie mode with sound!! The sound quality is fine for the size of this camera, and what I love is that you can still use the zoom in and out during recording. You can have hours of fun with the movie mode, the kids love to record themselves dancing and then connect the camera to the TV creating a home movie to entertain them! The length of video is determined by the free memory on your SD card. The technical spec when shooting in movie mode - records at 640x80 pixels/30 frames per second,
One feature I find particularly useful is the macro mode. This will capture all the details and colour of a particularly item as close as 5.9 inches from the lens. I have found this useful when selling jewellery and things on eBay
You have the option to take a single shot, continuous, multi shot 16, BSS and timed shooting.
IMAGE COLOUR OPTIONS
If you like to be a bit creative with your camera you have the option of taking photos in several different colours; standard colour, vivid colour, black and white, sepia, cyanotype
Aluminium body finish is a good look for this sleek camera. It is worth getting a cover to make sure keys and such like in your handbag don't leave their mark on it!! You also have the option of several colours depending on where you purchase it; silver, blue, black, purple/plumb.
It's been about for nearly two years now so the price has dropped considerably You can get this camera below £80 which is a bargain for all the functions and use you get from this little thing.
I love this little thing and highly recommend it for anyone who likes to take a lot of pictures, as I do. You have the versatility of a variety of scene modes suitable for any occasion, compact size makes it easy to fit into your pocket or the small hand bag that is already full to the max!! The picture quality is great and you can experiment with various
I bought this camera during the summer 2009. I sell quite a few items on Ebay and use my Nikon Coolpix S210 to take all my photos. I think it is a great versatille camera and has various different fatures for the type of flash including night mode and size of photo needed, also if you do happen to leave the memory card in you lapatop as I have done a number of times, there is an internal memory so you can still take photos. It has a good screen of 2.5 inches and comes with rechargable lithium battery which I would highly recommend as the AA battery cameras get through far too many batteries and cost a fortune. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase a nice compact stylish camera and good value for money especially as you can now pick these up on the high street for under the £100 mark.
I actually won this camera in a photography competition but at the time was wanting a compact camera so I didn't have to cart around my slr everywhere.
It looks great, very sleek, tiny but not too tiny for people with big hands like me! Very easy to use but this could be because I've only ever used Nikon cameras. The screen is easy to see and the menus are simple and easy to use. The zoom options are great and all in all it's a very nifty little camera. My only niggle is the blur I get on some of the pictures which aren't clear from the screen picture. I thought maybe this was because I was used to using a heavier slr but I've made a conscious effort to not shake and I still find for every 10 pictures I take 2 or 3 are blurred.
I have recently managed to get sand in the camera breaking the lens motor. I could pay to get this cleaned but instead I think I'm going to put the money towards finding myself a better model.
I just received this camera as my christmas present and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves those "kodak moments"! It's sleek style and looks make the camera attractive but it doesn't lack in performance ability at all - unlike some other products which are on the market.
The only issue I've had with this camera is that although the picture quality is excellent, when you go onto the review section of the camera to look at the photo you have just taken, it takes a while for it to pixelate which can be irritating!
The video function on the camera is very useful and suprisingly easy to use which pleased me as I have had cameras before which have been slightly complicated when it's had a video option. The menu's are all fairly easy to use and navigate around and clear instructions are given on the screen. I also liked the editing function which Nikon have added where you can change the colour to, black and white for instance for specific photos. There is also a function where you can crop the photos using the camera alone without the need for an editing software once you've uploaded your pictures which I found very handy!
The weight and size of the camera is perfect for anyone who doesn't want something too "heavy duty" and just wants something to pop into their handbag, suitcase, briefcase, so that they don't miss those funny moments which can only be re-lived through photographs!
The software which comes with it also is very easy to use and uploaded incredibly quick to my computer, which isn't a recent version of Microsoft so it should suit all users alike!
However, this camera is perfect for anyone who wants to document those special moments and also needs the camera to look good - or even match their outfit with the varying colours (Mine is red and is absolutely brilliant, everyone comments on it!)
