Advantages: Lightweight, compact, easy to use

Disadvantages: Quite basic

My partner and I decided before Christmas that it was time to get a new camera as we had owned ours for a while and it was starting to look a little battered and we'd had a few minor issues with it. I love taking photos and always have a camera around when we go out, but as I am not exactly David Bailey, I don't see the point in spending a fortune on a camera in case it gets lost, stolen or damaged.

After looking through the Argos catalogue, I decided on the Nikon Coolpix S2600. I had seen this range of cameras advertised on the television and always thought they looked ok, so we thought we would give it a go. This one is available in a few different colours, but I fell in love with the baby pink camera so purchased that one, much to my partner's disgust. Though if pink isn't your thing, you have other colours such as red and black to choose from.

I got mine from Argos for £49.99 which I think is quite a good price for a decent branded digital camera. As I only carry a small bag around with me, I like a small, compact and lightweight digital camera and that is what you get with this one.

I am no technical wiz so if you want to know all the technical specifications of this camera, then I suggest you look at the Nikon website to gain further information. This review is purely about my thoughts and opinions on the camera based on my usage, though I can give you a few details about the camera. This camera boasts 14 megapixels and has a 26mm wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. The camera also has a 2.7inch LCD screen which shows a really crisp and clear picture.

I was really happy with the look of the camera. It was very pink, shiny and girly. I like a camera that is user friendly and one that I can pretty much fathom out without the need of the manual and I did that with this one.

You can't really go wrong with this camera. It is easy to use and does give you excellent quality photographs. It has the usual features that you would expect from a camera of this kind such as red eye reduction, timer, flash etc and you get a few added extras on this one such as different scene modes, blink detection and it is also splash proof.

Within the box you get the USB lead, carry strap, re-chargeable battery and charger. The battery holds its charge quite well and since owning it, I haven't had to charge the battery once yet and I used it regularly over the Christmas and New Year period.

Overall, although this camera isn't anything special, I really like it and it suits me down to the ground. It is small enough to fit into my handbag with ease, is really easy to use and takes a good photograph. Basically, for a novice like me who just wants to take some nice family photos on special occasions, this does the job and does it well and therefore, this comes with a recommendation from me.
