After having my last digital camera broken and my holiday coming up soon i decided to research the internet to see what was the best value camera available. I decided to purchase this little camera and i am so glad i did! Its small and sleek, stylish, practical and has produces great quality pictures. When i first received the camera i expected to charge it for a few hours but to my surprise it was already fully charged and ready to use, which is a nice touch as everyone knows when you receive something quite like this you cant wait to get going and trying it out :) the camera was available in a variety of colours but i decided to go with the black, which is a lovely matte finish. there is a variety of setting to choose from and it is very easy to adjust. It takes great pictures both indoors and outdoors, i took pictures in Spain and the views came out just as beautiful in the pictures as they where in real life. i must say though that the best feature of all is the extremely long battery life, i take a lot of pictures on nights out and it can be several nights out with it before i even have to plug it in!
Looks very stylish. It is lightweight and small so perfect for taking on holidays, day trips etc. the picture quality is very good in good lighting but in poor lighting goes very blurry. Picutres are often grainy especially when taking photos of the objects eg for selling on ebay. im rather disappointed as I expected more for a 10mp camera and dont think it is worth the money. Luckily I won my camera. My last samsung 8mp camera took much better photos than this one does. iT comes with a battery and battery charger as it doesnt take normal aa batteries like most camerass. battery life does not last very long which is a pain when out and about. the lens retracts and has a cover which does automatcially when switched off or inactive for a period of time which protects it from getting scratched. case feels a bit plasticy
I have owned the Nikon Coolpix S550 for around 6 months and so far it has been a good camera. I have used it in a number of different occasions and it has always taken good pictures.
On holiday, I used it in a number oif different conditions, including in bright sunshine and at night and in both situations the quality was very good. It has an excellent panoramic mode, which joins together the pictures and is very effective. It is also a great size to fit in your pocket and is very light to carry round, being available whenever photo opportunities present themselves. The zoom is a definite bonus; on full optical and digital zoom, the photos look unclear on the screen before they are taken but sharpen up as the image is saved.
In addition, it has some excellent functions, including the smile sensor (although I think this is more of a gimmick) and face detector.
Overall, I think this is a good camera. Previous to this I owned a Canon Powershot which was much bigger and was only 3.2 Mpix, although took excellent photographs. The Nikon is better for less technical pictures and is more of a point and shoot, although I don't think the quality is quite as good as it was with the Canon.
I got this camera for my birthday, and so far I have been very impressed with its performance. I've been chuffed to bits with the impressive features they throw in: the "smile mode" is brilliant. You just point the camera at someone and as soon as they smile it takes a photo without you pressing a button! It's amazing, and everyone likes to have a go with it at parties.
There is also a very hi-tech panorama feature, which will let you take panoramic views with ease!
The 10 megapixels are more than enough to get good quality photos.
50mb of internal storage goes a surprisingly long way (i usually get 80 pictures out of it if I'm just on a normal snapshot mode) but a SD camera card can potentially allow for thousands of photos.
This camera is brilliant for taking out and about with you. It just slides right into your pocket, and you take it to work or on holiday without having to worry about it being too big or fiddly.
Unless your a very proffessional photographer (ie. want to take VERY detailed close-ups) then this camera will do just fine.
Only complaints: battery takes a while to charge, but you do get quite a lot out of it.
Macro mode is not brilliant! In close ups it can be outperformed by 8megapixels...but still, a good by!
