The Coolpix 950 now looks like a Nikon camera with its jet black magnesium alloy body and the large, rubberized finger grip. The grip, shutter release and control switch look like they came off the Nikon F5 35mm camera. The Coolpix 950's body is "sculptured" and feels rock solid in your hands. The Nikon 950 has got a terrific macro/closeup capability. In any focal length the macro function can be used to get closeups but there is a special "sweet spot" about halfway to telephoto where the lens will focus down to about 0.8 inches. Not saying this doesn't offer other advandced features, its just I haven't mastered them yet. The build quality is excellent and is very easy to use by the complete novice (me). This is a digital camera that came out sometime in 1998, it has been around for a while. It has been replace by the Nikon Coolpix 950, though there are still plenty of new ones out there that range in price from $789 to $999. For today's standards you might think 1.3 Megapixels isn't much but, this camera will surprise you. It will take up to 1280 x 960 pixels in resolution and the photo quality is beautiful.
