Premium Review Nikon D1: Mega Pixels, Mega Price (148 words)
by - written on 04/09/00 (Very useful, 213 readings)
Rating:

The D1 is becoming the standard kit for many press outfits, be it the local rag or the nationals, and with a lap top and mobile phone images can be flashed aroud the globe at amazing speed. But is it worth spending around five grand (with a couple of lenses) for the pleasure? If you make your living with a camera, and the images will only be used on printed pages or in screen based applications, then it certainly is. For those of us who want a print on the wall, then digi cameras still don't hack it compared to images that result from a good quality film scanner. Remember, if the best photographic quality is desired, size still matters, be ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A stunning camera! (250 words)
by - written on 27/07/00 (Useful, 144 readings)
Rating:

Not one for the casual user, I have been fortunate enough to acquire and use the D1 through work. It produces truly monumental results, stunning picture quality and, despite all the bells and whistles, can be as easy to use as camera costing a tenth of the price. After waiting many months for Nikon to get its act together and actually deliver the beast (apologies to all those dealers who were hounded every week for a sniff of a D1) the wait proved well worthwhile. If you let the camera do all the work, you can literally point and shoot as the Nikon AF lenses focus for you. If you need precise exposure or focus control you can have it to the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nikon D1: D1x is super sweet! (244 words)
by - written on 08/06/02 (Useful, 67 readings)

After using several digital cameras over the course of time... and being a photo school dropout... i missed the feel and functionality of the SLR cameras in the line of consumer digital cameras. While there are many very nice quality point and shoot digtial cameras out there... there is nothing better then having real manual contorl over your images. Film speed, shutter speed, apertaure control, lens choices... features the most consumer digtial cameras lack in one way or another... if not entirely. So i saved and dropped about $4,000USD on the body. Boy-o... that was the best money i ever invested. If you are familliar with SLR cameras.... that is just what ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The nearest to 35mm film, yet! (167 words)
by - written on 09/10/00 (Useful, 96 readings)
Rating:

Now this is my idea of how a digital camera should be made. With a price tag of £3300.00 (not including a lens) it's a tad pricey, but other professional cameras cost £££ more. Not only does this camera look like a Nikon professional 35mm SLR, but it handles and operates like one too. From the exclusive 3D color matrix metering and multi-zone autofocus modes to its ability to capture images at a blazing 4.5 frames per second. The Nikon D1 captures 2000x1312-pixel, 12-bit images using a 2.74 megapixel CCD (23.7 x 15.6mm) imager. Thanks to state of the art electronics and firmware it is able to process finished, high-quality JPEG images in the camera very ...  Read the complete review
