After using several digital cameras over the course of time... and being a photo school dropout... i missed the feel and functionality of the SLR cameras in the line of consumer digital cameras. While there are many very nice quality point and shoot digtial cameras out there... there is nothing better then having real manual contorl over your images. Film speed, shutter speed, apertaure control, lens choices... features the most consumer digtial cameras lack in one way or another... if not entirely. So i saved and dropped about $4,000USD on the body.

Boy-o... that was the best money i ever invested. If you are familliar with SLR cameras.... that is just what it is... only the images are stored on compact flash cards as opposed to film. Super fine image quality that prints JUST LIKE A lab processed print when used with my off the shelf HP photosmart1218. No dye-sub printers needed to match the quality.

As far as "film usage" or image storage goes... on a 1gb microdrive... i can fit near 400 medium quality (jpg 1:4 (2000 x 1960) compression) or 60 uncompressed (3008 x 1960) images. I didn't even bother messing with the low setting.

Firewire connection to your PC or Mac... and all the benefits of any Nikon SLR camera.

If you are a serious photographer and want to go digital... you get what you pay for... and you get solid gold with this little gem.
