Advantages: All in the headline! Good battery, easy to use and get used to

Disadvantages: lens cap being knocked off easy, sometimes awkward to focus on what you want

First DSLR I have ever owned and to be honest my first digital camera (except the ones you get on your mobile). I got given this as a gift after i had been looking at buying a digital SLR and wasn't sure what to go for, I had been looking at the D40X and the Canon equivalent at the time which i believe was the 40D or something like that. So when I got given this as a gift I was intially a little dissapointed knowing nothing about cameras because i thought 'oh it has 4 less megapixels than the one i wanted', but i soon realised I was being highly unappreciative.

Using this camera seems to be very easy, simple to use, great design and has a good weight to it too, but not too heavy, I have used my Dads Canon 40D camera which is a 10megapixel and to be honest i prefer the way the pictures come out on mine, the only real world difference is that i cannot zoom in as far on mine until it pixelates but then you are truly up close and personal with the picture.

Battery life lasts for ages, Lithium-Ion batteries always do, to give you an idea i've had the camera for about 8-9 months and ive had to charge the battery up 3 times!

Overall very happy, slight issue is that the lens cap comes off really easy so i suggest you get a bag to put it in, standard lens does for most stuff and have found a couple of times that it troubles to focus on the item i want it to, but just read up on what the settings do to get it to play ball.
