What's not to like? (Nikon D40)
Member Name: Nibblewood
Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, sharp picture quality Disadvantages: Does not support all nikon af lenses As an entry level Digital SLR camera, the D40 is a very attractive offer. Not only are you getting the camera body, but you are getting a lens in the kit. The 18-55mm af-s lens is a proffesional quality lens that creates a good building block on which to build your repertoire. With all Nikon products you can expect a certain level of quality, that level being high, and the D40 has kept in line with that quality. The build quality is superb, and at the same time keeps it light. Moving on to picture quality, it is noiseless at 200 and 400 ISO, and still good at 800. It is easy to take a photo the way that you want, whether it be in a shutter priority, an aperture priority or manual, and if you don't have time for that you can use the auto, which can yield uperb results. Overall, the camera is a delight to photograph with. At 6 million megapixels, it is not the most, and it doesn't support all types of nikon lens (only Af-s and sigma HSM), but these are not real problems, as you only want more megapixels if you are making proffesional poster size prints, even then 6 mil is still fine, and af-s is getting increasingly common and indeed cheap. I like this camera Summary: Probably the best budget DSLR
