Fantastic for first timers! Why pay more when this does it all! (Nikon D40)

Advantages: easy to use, lightweight, reasonably priced, suitable for a range of environments

Disadvantages: having to use a eyepiece ( which some first timers may find hard / different)

This is a great D-slr for those starting out in photography, as well as those who are a little more advanced. This was my first D-slr camera, and i still use it now at events and club nights when i don't want to take out my larger camera.

This camera works well both under natural light and with use of its flash. It also has a flash gun attachment, so also produces successful results under the studio lighting.

The only fault one can find for this camera, is the use of the view finder eye piece, rather than being able to use the screen to find the shot, as with most digital cameras. ( i am now used to this, but just a note for first time SLR buyers)

This camera is lightweight in comparision to some SLR's of a similar size, and so is great for taking to events as it can be carried around when not in use.

Reasonably priced, with all the features and quality of higher priced SLRs on the market, this camera comes highly recommended - easy to use, great value and of course the added advantage of nikon lenses being some of the best on the market, the D40 is a sure fire winner for beginners to the experianced alike.

Summary: great first time SLR, with all the features and quality of more expensive cameras on the market
