Advantages: Amazing quality, small, strong

Disadvantages: Battery flap is a tad on the weak side

After outgrowing my cheap compact camera, i decided to purchase a more "professional" Digital SLR. After reviewing the market, weighing up the pros & cons of the top models my price range, the Nikon D40x was the clear winner.

The main reason I went for the Nikon D40x was the quality of the Nikon lenses. Arguably, they have the best lenses available on the market.

Another great feature is its size. It is one of the smallest D-SLR's on the market. Now, this might not impress everyone, but it was definitely a positive for me.

The quality of the photos were absolutely amazing. The extra Megapixels are totally worth the upgrade from the D40. I have blown up my images to A1, with no loss of quality. It could easily go bigger, but with slightly more noise (which can add a nice "warmth" to the photographs).

The camera is also incredibly sturdy, and im sure it will take the harshest of drops & scrapes and still live to tell the story. The only slight concern i had with the camera was the battery flap. It did seem a little weak compared to the rest of the camera. But if you're careful with it (if you're not, you should be in jail) im sure it will last for many years.

All in all, if you are a student with a tight budget, but need to take professional photos, this is the camera for you. I 100% reccommend this camera.

P.S If you do buy this camera, be sure to purchase their 50mm f1.8 lens (about £50). You will not regret it. The amount of depth of focus is mind blowing.

Summary: If you have £400 to spend on a D-SLR, you would be mad not to buy this.

This is a decent camera but I have to say that the Sony A300 blows it out the water! - Colin (guide for photography)!

Some may think 400plus for a camera is excessive but in my opinion it is worth every penny.:O)
