Advantages: Cheap, Lightweight and good quality

Disadvantages: Needs motorised lenses, which are costly compared to normal lenses

I bought the D60 as an upgrade from my previous point and shoot camera, I wanted something with more pulling power and more features.

The D60 is an excellent camera, and with the wide range of nikon lenses that are available for it, there's plenty of room for improvement with the professionalism of the camera, without every having to replace the body itself.

The D60 can be pricey with buying lenses though, because it does not have an internal focusing motor, the lenses must have it or the camera cannot auto-focus like the higher up models such as the D90.
The fact that the D60 needs AF-S lenses, rather than standard AF lenses means any glass that you buy, will cost a lot more.

The D60 is an excellent camera that's good for beginners because it has numerous "dummy" modes, where the camera does most of the technical decisions, but then its also good for the more experienced photographer, as the camera can also be overruled in many user defined modes.

Overall a good multi-functional DSLR, that provides great images for a fraction of the price of the higher up models.

Its also a lot lighter in weight than other models, making it much better for long days out shooting

Summary: Great For a beginner or intermediate photographer, but not if you want more lenses / flexibility
