Well made, inbuilt optical image stabilization, 3 inch view screen
I have been using the Nikon D70 for several years and finally decided to upgrade to the D90. The main reason was simple - the D90 has a much bigger view screen (3-inches with very high resolution - 920,000 pixels) and inbuilt optical image stabilization. Ideal if, like me, you cannot hold a camera steady without having the use of a large and cumbersome tripod.
Searching around, there seemed little advantage to buying the camera as body only. Dixons were able to undercut all of the major high street retailers, and offered an impressive price of £730. This package included an 18-105mm VR lens, which is suitable for most everyday "snaps". The camera manages an impressive 12.3 megapixels and a 24fps 720P video recorder - handy for the occasional panoramic shot of coastline.
Interchangable lenses are available - research carefully though, as their perfromance does vary.
Editing of RAW to JPEG is as easy as ever; although it is worth taking up Nikons free 60 day trial of their software.
An excellent camera overall, although a little heavy if all you are planning is a big tourist photo shoot. Battery life is excellent and should last a couple of days of intense shooting, although for a longer holiday, a second battery is a must!
Summary: Fantastic Camera, big improvement on the D70.
