Nikon D300:
... hands, I like having the ability to quickly switch to shooting portrait, without having to fumble for the standard button.
The D300 feels sturdy to hold. I wouldn't advise dropping it ... but I did, and it survived without a scratch.
The LCD display is 3" and 922,000 pixels (compared to the D200's 2.5" and 230,000 pixels) and this provides a really clear picture.

Nikon D80 ... a bit heavier that compacts, but there's no comparision in quality. If you're considering buying on of these, I assume you'e already read about DSLRs in general, and I guess you'll be looking at this, probably a Canon EOS and possibly a Sony. I chose the Nikon because, although it's heavier, it is a better build quality [unless you move up to the EOS 30D, which is much pricier]. Realistically, they will all give very good results, and unless you're a serious pro, you might not see the difference (I'm sure I wouldn't!)]. At the end of the day, you need to pick them up and see how they feel for you. Battery life is excellent, will easily shoot 500 shots outside [... Nikon Coolpix S10 ... can be turned through 270º to point in almost any direction: this is really handy for photographing over people's heads in a crowd, or for getting clever low level angle shots. The 6.0 megapixel resolution is good, but just as good is the excellent lens with 10x optical zoom. This may not be an SLR, but it offers pretty awesome quality for a compact digital camera. The screen is a good size and shows ok images - I've noticed that some shots in certain lighting conditions (really colourful sunrises and sunsets) don't look as good on the camera's screen as they do when they've been uploaded to my computer. Nikon Coolpix 4100 ... recommend the company NIKON and would definitely purchase my next camera from them quite happily. When looking to buy a new camera i would make sure I try as many different brands as possible and I urge you to try out a Nikon before purchasing any. I was not disappointed in anyway with my purchase. But all said and done, I still do prefer the old, traditional cameras with the printouts. With all Digital Camera a decent printer has to be bought and the old film method with Kodak etc worked perfectly.
