Advantages: Small, lightweight and pretty, Easy to use.
Disadvantages: expensive, battery guzzling
The Olympus Camedia c-990 Zoom digital camera is one of my most treasured possessions. I was tempted to buy it in January when disapointed with my Christmas pressies I decided to buy what I wanted for myself! I looked at lots of different makes and models but as my first digital had been a bog standard Olympus (free with the PC)I decided to stick with them. The C-990 looks pretty in its gold and black casing it is quite like a posh compact camera with glossy edges! It has lots of features including; 2.1 Mio Pixels Bright lens 3xzoom f2.8 - F4.4 2.5 Digital Tele mode Quick time Motion JPEG ISO settings 100/200/400 High quality UXGA images Easy arrow key operation You can take standard or panorama style pictures and also short bursts of video - then simply remove the Smart media card and put it into a Flashpath disk (available from photographic stores for around £50) and straight into the pc. Alternatively, you can connect the cable supplied to your pc and down load direct from the camera - this is quite expensive battery-wise. I found if anything the normal pictures produced are too large but they can be reduced easlily by using any of the many photo packages on the market. Relatively easy to use the C-990 zoom is a worthwhile investment that gives me lots of pleasure and fantastic quality pictures. It is rather heavy on batteries so I would suggest investing in a charger and two sets of 4 re-chargeable batteries, it works out a lot cheaper. I also have a couple of extra 'Smartmedia' cards. They are a bit pricy but you can get them off of EBay pretty well half shop price and they last for ever (almost). The camera comes with a sturdy satin grey case that has belt loop, pockets for extra batteries/cards and a small strap. if you are serious about digital photography but don't want to get into the realms of professional prices th
is could be the camera for you. UPDATE I came back from a month in Australia this summer and took a whopping 500 snaps with my Oylmpus camera. After a lot of down-sizing and sifting out the rubbish (not too many of them!) I now have a computer slide-show for friends to see of just over 400 shots of me and my Antipodean buddies down under(!) The camera has travelled around the world with me and is still as good as new. WHY ARE YOU HESITATING? GO AND BUY ONE - NOW!

- 10/02/02 I have a Kodak which is quite good but I keep looking at Olympus for when I upgrade. My "ordinary" camera is an Olympus and I think they are a very good make. Kim x |
