Olympus Camedia C-40 ZoomThe technical capabilities are really breathtaking. In addition to the automatic mode for effortless shooting, this compact performer offers many manually adjustable functions so that even the most difficult lighting situations yield superb results. Furthermore, the camera is equipped with a pixel-mapping function. This new technology - which has already been employed in the Olympus flagship SLRs - automatically calibrates the CCD chip and ASIC processor. Pixel mapping produces even sharper contrast, brighter colors and fewer image errors. The C-40ZOOM also demonstrates its technical prowess when shooting with extended exposure times. The number of colored spots that often occur in the very dark areas of an image (referred to as noise) - particularly in low-light shots - are significantly reduced by the noise reduction function developed by Olympus. When printing in large formats, the C-40ZOOM maintains top quality by intelligently recalculating the image data. The camera increases the resolution up to 3, 200 x 2, 400 pixels. The photographer can also shoot more than still images. The C-40ZOOM captures video sequences with sound in the QuickTime Motion JPEG format. Both short movies and still shots can be reviewed on the LCD at the back of the camera immediately after saving. The C-40ZOOM is incredibly user-friendly. Its optimized graphical user interface features a well-structured menu so the photographer easily finds the desired functions. I've had my Olympus C-40 Zoom for a few months now and I take it with me everywhere! I can, because it's so small (for such a good quality digital) and lightweight. When I was looking for a new digital camera my main concerns were reliability, picture quality, and an optical zoom. My friend had an Olympus 3030 and it took very impressive pictures, and that's what convinced me to look at the Olympus. I like the C-40z because it's compact (some digital cameras are still so bulky), is 4 Mexapixel, has a 2.8 Optical Zoom, plus the option to shoot short movie clips (although in .MOV format). Also it uses Smart Media, which is handy for me ...

Soooooo user friendly! - Advantages: Great instructions, easy to load software WITH EXTRAS! Great choice of settings incl. great quality night pictures, aperture and shutter speed can be set manually, Great choice of quality settings, invest in a 128mb memory card and you can take approx 400 pictures of fantastic quality just on the standard quality setting. Sound settings available for stills pictures as well as movies!, The battery consumption is low except in movie mode which is expected for a camera of this size - Disadvantages: Not really worth using for movies as even the 128mb card can only hold a couple of minutes, You need to invest quite a bit of time setting up the initial settings and preferences but it's worth it, A tripod is a must if you take nighttime pictures so there's an added expense.

This a 4 mega pixel compact, very light digital camera with lots of features! Not mentioned the different size of the pictures you can take (the larger the size, the better the photos you can print out, the less number you can fit into a smart media card, of course). It has a movie function with sound recording too. The movie is in Quick time format: the software can be downloaded free. Another cool thing is the panorama function where two or more pictures can be stitched together with the software provided! I've tried it and it works very well. The batteries are 2 AA size but preferably the high capacity NiMH (nickel metal ...
