Great beginner Digital SLR (Olympus E-500)
Member Name: joedavis
Advantages: Packed full of features Disadvantages: Lens range limited This digital SLR is a very good starter camera and could easily be used in a semi professional context if paired with a good lens. It has a very good 8Mp CCD sensor with CCD shift technology for dust reduction. This dust reduction is particularly good as it doesn't just remove duct when you tell it to, a tedious, forgotten job, but instead shifts the sensor every-time you turn the camera on. This means that the CCD sensor is constantly being cleaned without you having to worry about it. 8Mp doesn't sound like much in todays sea of 10-12Mp Digital SLRs but it can more cope with a vast majority of your photographic needs. Another great feature on this camera is that it has dual card slots, both XD and Compact flash, useful for situations where you don't want to have to open the card slot and physically remove and change the card, it means that you can just go through the menus in seconds and change the card, so you don't miss those important shots. The drawback of this SLR is that it has a 4/3 lens mount which means that it is only compatible with Olympus lens'. I really like this camera and it suits the majority of beginner and intermediate photographers needs perfectly. Summary: Great if switching from compact to SLR cameras
