We bought the Olympus µ[MJU:] 850 SW to use as a compact camera when using our SLR wasn't ideal. Our friend had the earlier model and recommended this camera because it was shock proof and waterproof. We had a play with his and decided to buy the next model up in time for our summer holidays!

We bought it mainly because it's waterproof and the cost of buying and developing disposable film camera mounts up, so this seemed like a good investment.

The great thing about this camera is it's a good all rounder. We took it to the beach, the pool, the snow and it's taken some great pics ones that we wouldn't have been able to take with the SLR.

As it's shockproof it's fine to drop into my handbag or day bag, and as there is no external zoom lense, worrying about it coming open or being damaged is not an issue.

I think it's a great all round camera. Whilst I haven't thrown in on the ground to check how shock proof it is, I think it would be great for people with kids as it's not as "fragile" as some cameras.

Summary: Good compact camera that does the job!!
