Advantages: 10x zoom, 12 megapixels, easy to use

Disadvantages: xD cards, expensive

At 12 megapixels and 10x zoom the Olympus mju 9000 leads the compact camera market as far as picture quality is concerned. Personally my pictures always suffer with compact cameras due to excessive camera shake but the 'Dual Image Stabilisation' on the Olympus mju 9000 is very effective and provides clear image even for my very shaky hands! Most of the rear of the camera is taken up by the 2.7 inch LCD screen, though the camera lacks an optical viewfinder which may be a downside to some more serious photographers as it is harder to keep the camera steady at the highest zoom. Personally I found the 'Dual Image Stabilisation' more than capable of counteracting the imbalance. With 45MB internal memory the camera supports xD memory cards and micro-SD memory cards, this can be a downside as xD cards tend to be slower and are less commonly supported by card readers on laptops and printers. The automatic mode is great for those with less photographic experience and provides great image quality.
Overall a great compact camera but not the best in the range when compared to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 the market leader in this category. Not to be written off though as the 10x zoom is a major advantage, a great family camera but maybe not one for the more serious photographer.

Summary: high zoom and megapixels if you can afford it!
