Advantages: Excellent Picture Quality, Good Battery Life
Disadvantages: None
I've been the proud owner of my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX12 for approximately 18 months now and i am so pleased with the way that it has performed since i took it out of the box.
When i decided to look for a digital camera my main criteria were picture clarity and budget. I didn't have that much to spend so most of the high quality cameras weren't a realistic option for me.
When i found this camera it stood out from the rest straight away. For a start it looks like an incredibly professional little camera but don't let this size fool you. It houses a high quality Leica DC lens with 3x optical zoom. Not only is the lens quality very good but with 7.2 megapixels, the picture clarity and definition achievable with this camera is excellent.
The battery life seems to be rather good aswell when compared to the life of a standard AA battery camera. Although my se of the camera is not consistent. I have only a need to charge it every few hundred pictures. This i find is exceptional.
For the price i wasn't expecting much but my camera didnt come with a case which i feel is necessary with such a large screen on the back on the camera which can be prone to scratching.
There are a number of different shooting modes available for use with this camera which i really liked. Each mode has a different shutter speed so the light is captured differently depending on the environment in which the picture is being taken.
I have had some issues with the shutter sticking and jamming but this is solved simply by ently placing my fingernail between the shutter and flicking it open.
In conslusion, i would highly recommend this camera for somebody who wants a relatively low cost starter camera for taking photos of holidays and events. Whilst it will be nowhere near the standard required by professional photographers, i believe that any family who invests in one of these cameras will be pleased for many years to come.
Summary: A great little starter camera for everyday use and holidays.
