This is a great little digital camera, i've had mine around 4 years (I think...??) and it hasn't put a foot wrong, if you are a budding photographer who wants the kind of super HD close up shot of some wild animal for national geographic magazine then no.... its not the camera for you, but the rest of us, this is perfect! Ive had mine at the Moto GP in barcelona taking shots of the bikes going by, I took it to Australia and have some of the greatest pictures il get and they all look amazing!! from birthday parties to festivals i've had it everywhere, its robust, taken a few knocks over the years and ive only this past month got a case for it so it'll stand up to some abuse on the road.
Its like with the latest HD tvs and broadcasting... yes the pictures may look sharper and closer than ever before, but i still knew what i was looking at 4 years ago... there are better cameras around these days but for the pice and the fact that you can stick even a 4GB card in here and it'll last you an age!!!!
Great little camera and at the price you can get them for now it's a great bargain for someone who just wants to take a few memories home with them :)
Overall, this is a solid point and shoot camera. It has a very quick start up time, so you never have to miss that all important moment. Also the flash recharges really quickly when you are taking shots in low light. The intelligent auto function is pretty useful as it sets the settings according to the light conditions for you. A couple of down points: it does not take great photos in low light if you do not have a steady hand. Second down point, it doesn't have enough manual adjustments for when you want to take that snap of the sun going down behind the hills or something like that. There is a sunset preset, but sometimes you want to play a little more, and this camera does not allow that. Overall though, a solid performer, nice and compact, does not weigh the pocket down, and is very accessible.
Bought this camera nearly a year ago now and absolutely delighted with it! The 'intelligent auto' is excellent, for an amateur photographer like myself it means that there is no playing around with all those fiddly settings anymore - just point and shoot! The photos are of excellent quality as well, the reason for purchasing this new camera was to replace my old one which could not take photos in the dark without the light blurring the whole image - in contrast this Lumix works wonders in the dark, no image blurring and gives a sharp picture every time. The design is also extremely 'cool' - the metal casign gives excellent protection all year round and will not be damaged when put in your pocket - very hand for those holiday trips when you need to get it out quickly. This camera starts up very quickly and the flash recharge time is rapid. Top marks all round!
I have owned this camera for about 6 months and it is exactly what I had been looking for.
I considered a entry-level DSLR for a while, but decided I really needed a good quality, compact point and shoot for the majority of my needs.
This camera is ace. The controls are well laid out and very simple to get to grips with. There is an "intelligent auto" feature where the camera will select what it thinks is the most appropriate setting just prior to taking the shot. There are also various scene modes and additional functionality if you want to alter the settings to get a better picture.
In my case, I have use the intelligent auto feature almost all of the time and the pictures have looked great - certainly good enough for my needs. Since the camera is so compact, I can carry it around anywhere I choose in my pocket and take great snaps whenever I like.
Another feature which has proved useful is the fast start up time - there hasn't been a moment yet where I've found I'm waiting for the camera to start up and I'm trying frantically to take a quick shot. The battery is not bad either - it lasted 3 days of varying use recently in the Brecon Beacons with no problem.
A good point and shoot camera well worth considering for general every day use.
Slim, sleak design. This camera is very well built with good features including very nice zoom lens. Other positives include large clear bright screen, easy to use interface and a solid feel, everything from the flap that covers the sockets to the zoom control button. In terms of picture quality it's very good. The auto focus is one of the best I've used. It also has a sturdy shot feature/image stabliser which makes it even easier to take good photos. A problem I found in other cameras is using the display i sunlight, this isn't as much of a problem with this camera. It has a feature for improving the display when you're holding the camera up high, enabling you to still see the display. The anti-red eye feature works well. The battery life is very good, although it's too new to say exactly how long this is.Negatives of the camera include on some shots the image quality can be a little bit noisy, however this is because of the size of the camera - a disadvantage of nearly all compact digital camera. The majority of the time this doesn't occur. A very impressive, well built, high spec camera.
The DMC-FX33 features a wealth of technological features, including a 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC lens, optical image stabilizer, face detection and intelligent scene selection to name but a few. Continuing to push the boundaries, the FX33 goes one step further to include Intelligent Auto mode - a feature unique to Panasonic Lumix cameras. Technology rich yet remaining inherently easy to use - the best photographs are taken with a Lumix camera.
