Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8EG-ADescription: Model ID DMC-FX8EG-A / Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8EG-A - Digital camera - 5.0 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MMC, SD - blue / The DMCFX8 boasts high picture quality, large LCD, compactness and stylish design, all those desired for a compact camera. Not only that, the FX8 ... more The 5-megapixel LUMIX DMCFX8 is the slim and stylish model that incorporates 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35mm to 105mm on a 35mm film camera) LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and bright 2.5inch LCD monitor. The combination of three spherical lenses generates high optical performance while preserving the compactness of the unit. Power LCD mode offers 140% brighter backlighting to assure clear view even when sunny outdoors. MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) that Panasonic thinks it indispensable for all digital cameras, especially for compact models that lack stability, is incorporated in the entire LUMIX line-up. Every slight hand-shake movement is detected accurately with the sampling frequency at 4, 000 times per second and will be compensated to render clear, sharp images. By adopting the newly developed lithium-ion battery that increased its capacity by 162% and the Venus Engine PLUS that consumes only 70% of the power Venus Engine II does, FX8 realizes more than two times longer, compared with the previous FX7 battery life to take approximately 300 pictures. Newly developed CCD that adopts 9-pixel mixed readout method makes it possible to record beautiful full-size movie in VGA size at 30 fps while FX7 recorded in the size of QVGA. The new CCD enhances the picture quality not only in the resolution but also in the brightness level of the image as it gains much luminous signals. On the sound front, new built-in speaker lets you enjoy playing back movies with audio on the 2.5inch large LCD anytime, anywhere. |

Rating:
angle tends to vignette, even with the low-profile Hoya super pro polarising filter - the 12x zoom is great but doesn t focus close enough (approx 2m minimum), so using macro more often than I d expect - Panasonic spares v costly (and hard to get at airports!) - get the Olympus FL50 flash, the Uniross battery etc - custom settings should be easier to alter: "set from what I m using" would be good - multi-frame rather clunky - wide angle not very wide This Panasonic camera has been well reviewed at Digital Photography Review of course, where there s a good Panasonic user forum ...

Rating:
I bought this from Pixmania recently for under £240 and it is an excellent camera for the money. On second thoughts, it would be an excellent camera for £350 but Pixmania has a great deal on. I bought a 1Gb data card as the bundled card at 32Mb would only be good for a handful of top quality photo's. The features are easy to use, has a great user interface and the picture quality is stunning. I had a Canon PowerShot A70 before which was OK but only 3.2 mega-pixels. The step up to 5 Mp+ makes a big difference but i is really in the quality of the Leica lens and a massive 10X optical zoom that the real difference is noticed. Unlike most of its ...
