Having always been a bit of a cheap and cheerful camera buyer, I was a bit nervous spending nearly double what I'd usually spend on a camera. This camera has proved to be beyond value for money though!

The Lumix DMC-TZ5 is a 9.1 megapixel, with a wide angle lens and boasts an awesome 10X optical zoom. It's also a remarkable easy camera to use, a lot of time has gone into setting up the intelligent auto function (which is the main setting you'll use), that means the camera works out what type of photo your taking, adjust for light and does pretty much everything a photographer does (all be it not to the same level of expertise) as you take the photo, meaning amazing shots ever time. That said don't be afraid try to experiment with the manual settings (of which there are many!!) as will a little bit of practice you can get some really brilliant photos.

Size wise although the TZ5 is larger than a normal compact, it is still far smaller than an SLR (which I feel the quality of the camera is far closer to) and you'll have no problem slipping it into you pocket / handbag for a night.

Although there are many cameras out there at lower prices with more megapixels I'd still advice anyone to get this camera as, you can have as many pixels as you like, without a good camera its pointless!! The TZ5 can make a good photographer out of the most average and is guaranteed to last you a long time before you want to upgrade to a different camera. The 10 zoom has been invaluable on so many occasions, getting me photos of so many things I'd have otherwise missed. I would recommend it to anyone who would listen.
