While this camera the Pentax Optio L40 is for many an old model I have been using this camera for many yes and find that it still word well.
There is an good optical zoom which gives impressive results when taking close up pictures. I like the 2 inch viewing screen, this shows the picture well. The menu's are easy to move around. Being less difficult than more modern camera's.
The options to shoot a video is great as well as the sound as are the options that allow the users to capture landscapes, peope, flowers and so much more.
Being a thin camera - it fits in easy in a pocket or bag. The look is stylish with a great silver finish, which even after 5 years hard use has not marked.
Without a memory card up to around 80 photographs can be taken, a memory card increases this meaning that this camera is always ready.
The battery has not showed any signs of failure - which I have been impressed with.
For it's price range this has been the best camera I have ever had.
The Pentax Optio L40 is a really amazing camera with great features, especially for it's size.
Even compared to my very large cannon, it takes great quality pictures. The 8Mp camera is top quality, even though it isn't a huge number it still takes very good quality pictures.
The camera is very light and easy to hold and handle. It takes SD cards so you can easily transfer pictures to your computer if it has a card reader, or by USB cable if it doesn't. The battery life is very reasonable and it does not take a long time to fully charge with the included battery charger.
The camera has many extra features, one of the ones I find amazing is the smile detection. The camera will automatically detect people's faces (you can see a yellow box round them on the screen) and if you have it in smile mode it will then automatically take the picture when it sees them smile. This is a very cool and nifty feature, especially good for showing off to friends.
It has many modes including outdoor, indoor, portrait, pet, food, sport etc. to take the best quality pictures for what you need.
The only small problem is that the screen is a little hard to see in very bright light.
Overall it is an amazing camera even when compared to professional ones, it has many settings and features and for the price is definitely worth it.
My sister got me this camera as a Christmas present and I haven't looked at another camera since. It's small and light, I picked up a case for it to protect the screen for under £5 and it fits nicely in my hand bag. I never go anywhere without it. Positive points include size and weight, not to mention the superb picture quality at 8 mega pixels. The other day I went to a concert where I was taking pictures in the dark (of a lit stage) without the use of a tripod and most of them came out great! I've also made good use of the movie function and now have 3 memory cards for it (standard SD which makes it compatible with self-service print kiosks and laptops etc). Battery life is good and I've attached an adjustable wrist-strap so it doesn't slip out of my hands.
Negative points are few but I would say include the shiny screen which can be difficult to see in bright light sometimes and the fact that if you want to show someone a picture you took, you naturally tend to hold the camera by top and bottom which activates it for taking pictures when you touch the snap button.
All in all, a fabulous little camera!
I had been looking for a digital camera for a long time and after time spent searching i chose this one. The camera is really good and easy to use. The zoom is easy and simple. However I think that the camera mat benefit from having a slightly larger screen. I also think that some of the buttons were quite small and it makes it quite difficult to navigate through some of the menus. I also found that the setup was easy to do and the instructions were very clear but most of the instruction book semmed to be in a different language! there were also somused the useful accessories with the camera such as a wrist strap which is useful in helping to keep the camera close. The disk provided with the camera to transfer picturea across what quite difficult and not simple to use. In the end i gave up with the disk and unistalled it and used the software i already had. However overall i think it is a great little camera and reccomend it to anyone.
The Pentax Optio L40 at a first glance is slim (only 18mm) and stylish with a sleek silver finish. The camera is unbelieveably easy to use, once purcased and charged all it takes is the press of one button to take a clear impressive photograph! A great feature included is the way that you can choose to have a personal photo greet you when you turn it on, making you smile everytime you pick it up! The 2 inch colour screen is a good size that allows you to view your photgraphs without the need to squint, it also displays a huge range of vibrant colours that allow you to really capture your surroundings. Features wise, the camera allows you to capture film and sound as well as images which is suprisingly handy. There are also options which automatically adjust the brightness settings and bring out the true beauty of your photograph such as landscape, flower, natural skin tone, surf, snow, food, pets and sport. With a 3x optical zoom you can get close up photos from far away that are still of an amazing quality. Although if buying the camera you would most probably buy a memory card to allow you to take more photos, without a card the camera can hold up to 80 pictures! With all of these easy-to-use features and so many more the Optio L40 is an amazing find for its price range and is the best camera I have ever owned!
