Since my sister dropped my previous camera skiing, the Optio P80 ha been my constant photo-taking companion. As a definite point and shoot photographer this camera has been great. I've had it for around 3 years, so what better review to read than someone who can vouch for its usability after that period time?
Its done me really well, travelling all over the world, from Tuscany to South Africa, and will be joining me in Bolivia in a years time-I am fully expectant it will last that long! The speed of taking pictures, starting up or turning off have not decreased over time in anyway-it still functions the way it did when it came out the box!
Whilst I am only the most basic camera user, I still have time to appreciate the features this camera has. When I bought it 12MP was a lot, now perhaps not so much, but it is of adequate enough quality for facebook and sharing with friends. Whilst the photos it takes are no good for printing onto canvas or cushions (as i found to my disappointment), they still can cope with being blown up to fairly large sizes on paper. Its also got some cool features for different types of photos-the one for text is also useful for getting some slightly instagram-like effects on ordinary photos, so play around with them!
The zoom and macro modes are very good, the super macro mode can be a little blurry, so I tend just to use the Macro mode, which is sufficient for most close ups. Its basic zoom zooms in enough for taking photos on safari etc when animals are far away. The red-eye feature is also very effective and consistently works.
Ease of use:
Really user friendly. The buttons are clearly labelled and there aren't too many of them to confuse you. The zoom button is an actual button, not an irritating twisty thing some cameras have, and is again clearly labelled. There is no annoying program to have to use to edit photos, you can just use the windows one. They are quite small so maybe not so good for large fingers, but my small hands have had no problems.
I'm not sure how many people would buy this new now, but its definitely worth picking cheap for second-hand!
