The Caplio GX8's advanced technology for stunningly vivid photography fits inside a remarkably compact body. The CCD, the camera's core imaging unit, is 8.24 effective megapixels. And Ricoh's superior Smooth Imaging Engine image processing system achieves high-speed processing of high-resolution images while suppressing image noise. Even in large-sized prints, images are vivid and beautifully clean and sharp. Bring your creative vision alive in landscapes and portraits with Aperture Priority mode. With precise control over depth of field, you can put beautifully focused attention on a foreground subject, or maintain sharp focus throughout the scene. Also, the Caplio GX8 gives you control over the shutter speed, which ranges in Manual Exposure mode from 1/2000 to 30 seconds. Approach scenes with extreme difference in brightness between your subject and the background like a pro. The Caplio GX8 lets you avoid over- or underexposure by making EV adjustments in 1/3 steps within a range of ±2.0EV. Wide-angle expression is the forte of Ricoh cameras. The Caplio GX8 takes it to a new level with an optical 3x zoom beginning at wide-angle 28mm. The zoom lens, consisting of 9 elements in 7 groups, ensures adequate peripheral light in wide-angle edges. Four aspherical lenses and four lenses with high refractive index and low dispersion are arranged to ensure well-balanced correction of aberration in all zoom ranges. Photographers have never encountered such advanced optical performance in a digital camera so compact. |

Ricoh Caplio R7
by clyjem - written on 01/05/08 (Somewhat useful, 79 readings)
Rating:
The R7 has improved so much compared to my older R5. The relocation of the zoom lever back to the front (same as the R6) permits better holding/zooming with one hand. The unique ADJUST button which operates like a joystick works well. Startup is fast & you'll be ready to shoot within 2 seconds. Zooming from wide to tele is very fast. Focusing ...

series. Most notable difference is the Power button relocated to the back of the camera. This makes it easier to locate. However, if you use the soft pouch supplied by Ricoh and place it in your pocket, there is high chance the Power button can get depressed when you squat down. The lens extends out in the pouch whie still in your pocket. The solution: I always set the Mode Dial to PLAYBACK before sliding it to the pouch. Close-up pictures are very good. IClose-up lover will appreciate the Close-Up AF Target Selection Function, where you can shift the focusing pointer off-center. Noise level has also improved over the G4s. Other functions retained from the G4 are the ...

Rating:
This camera is very easy to use after initial familiarisation. It has many useful facilities and downloads rapidly. I purchased the larger memory (64Kb) card from Jessops which gives me about 80 shots before I need to download. It does however, absolutely eat batteries. This is though, a common failing with all digital cameras. The clarity of ...
