Advantages: Price & size
Disadvantages: small viewfinder
The Samsung Digimax 800K is an excellent digital camera at a low price. At around £150 it offers you the chance to enter the world of digital photography. Features include: A normal and Marco function, Built in Flash, 24 true bit colour, 1/2- 1000 shutter speed, Self timer, Delete picture button and much more. The Digimax 800K runs off 2 AA batteries and it does tend to "eat up" batteries so I would advise that you always carry some spare batteries. The memory card that comes with the camera takes about 22 normal pictures before you are required to download, but you can buy a card that will hold about 80 pictures, if you are willing to spend an extra £20-30. The camera comes with all the software and connections you will require. Obviously there are same drawbacks, the viewfinder is quite small and being at the lower end of the market, there is no preview facility. Overall the Samsung Digimax 800K is a compact, lightweight, quality digital camera, the gives people an opportunity to enjoy digital photography. ************UPDATE**************** At Christmas my camera didn't want to switch on. At first I thought it was the batteries.... but I changed them and there was no response. It simply died after 6 months. I took it back to the shop, who have since then returned it to Samsung. I have no idea what is wrong or when it will be back...... Watch this space for more details. PS If anyone else has had a similar problem, let me know either on a comment or via email. ****************************************** Your guess is as good as mine! After being away at Samsung for 6 weeks I now have my camera back. Well at least a camera. The reason I say that is because I can not be sure that it is my old camera. It came back with no strap on it (but a new one was in a packet) and a new carry case. This is fine....... but I don't actually know what went wrong and got no explaination at all.
> My advice therefore is keep your receipt!! (I might also suggest that an extended warranty would be advisable.)

- 05/12/00 No, There is a LED battery light that lets you know about the life left. The camera has an auto shut off, if the camera is not in use. That saves the battery too |
