Advantages: size, weight, price.

Disadvantages: quality not excellent, but good for the money. battery hungry.

I like Samsung. They made my DVD players (the 807, then the 709), my combi microwave, one of my mobiles and now my first digital camera. As with the rest of their products, it's priced at the lower end of the market, has reasonable features and performs well for the money.

It cost me 120 pounds, which is about the going price at the moment, and I bought a cheap 8Mb compact flash card to go with it (it comes with a 2Mb card, which isn't quite big enough for a long day out. I believe that 8MB is the maximum it will take, so don't bother buying any bigger if you get this model. I can fit over 30 photos on the card, with plenty of space left. It has options for taking photos close up or at distance and the flash is selectable whether you want to use it or not or automatic.

Quality is reasonable for the price - spend more money and get a mega-pixel camera if you have the money, but if this is your budget and you want something cheap and cheerful that will produce photos that you will not be ashamed to show off to friends / put on web pages etc, I can recommend this camera. It is battery-hungry, especially on the transfer of files from camera to PC (which isn't fast, but not too slow to be unbearable), so stock up on the Duracell ultras.
