Affordable, fast, easy to use, and takes great pictures
Member Name: tirial
Advantages: affordable, easy to use, great camera
Disadvantages: Can be slow in low light conditions
The Samsung ES15 is a compact budget camera, which takes AA batteries and stores pictures on a standard SD card. It is also easy to use and has been my preferred camera for some time. The AA batteries rather an integral battery is extremely useful at conventions or displays, where recharging lithium cells is impractical, but replacement batteries are easy to purchase.
Physically, it is small enough to fit easily in a bag or a pocket, and reasonably robust. The camera's options are access through a menu system controlled by the button on the back. These are very simple and easy to use, drilling down neatly and comprehensibly to get to the options you need. The image is displayed on the screen at the back, allowing you to see what the camera sees before taking a picture. You can also review and delete pictures to free up space.
The camera has an extensive range of photographic modes, up to 10 Megapixel resolution, a 3x zoom and lowlight abilities. It also has a default point and click functionality, which makes it very easy to get started. If you are photographing something that moves quickly, or in poor light conditions the camera can be slow to pick it up, requiring you to manually take the shot by clicking the button fully (or simply to be patient).
In addition to photographs it also has a decent video mode with a zoom function. There is a screw fitting for a tripod underneath if you need steady or long shots. The only real limit on how long a video can be is the storage so a large SD card can hold a substantial amount of footage, and the video quality is reasonable - I've used mine (once edited) for presentation DVDs. The sound pickup is also good, although almost too sensitive and prone to pick up background noise. It's great for short clips, family memories or youtube use.
It can store data on SD Cards, or if you aren't using an SD card, the camera has a small onboard memory where images can be stored, accessed by plugging the camera in to a computer through a micro-USB connection. I've happily used mine with 8 and 16Gb cards so it can handle larger card sizes. Without a tripod long exposure or video footage may be affected by shaking hands, so it is worth getting one.
In short this is a useful, easy to manage and affordable camera take takes great snaps. For it's price, it is exceptionally good value.
Summary: An excellent budget camera for all users.
