This Samsung digital camera was bought for me as a present from my boyfriend. It boasts a sleek, elegant design that is light to carry and small enough to squeeze into my tiniest handbag. The high megapixel count means that my photos come out sharp and in bright and bold colours. The 3 x optical zoom allows me to take pictures from a distance and focus on smaller items of interest to create exciting and memorable photos. However, the best thing about this camera is that it has an in-built beauty shot function which means that when faces are picked out it will automatically smooth skin tone and give a glowing complexion free from blemishes. No concealer or editing required before holiday snaps are uploaded to facebook.
The simple design means that its easy to use all the super smart functions even for a technophobe like me!
One request: do it in pink!
The camera i had before this was basically to simple and the megapixels were alot lower than this camera, so i thought the best option was to purchase a new one. I had a look around for a camera which was generally small, had good megapixels, and one with feature which I would know how to use. At the time i was aiming for a £100 budget which i completed but obviously the camera is cheaper these days. I looked around and the best price was at Argos so i went out and bought it. I must say the service at Argos was outstanding i didn't wait for the camera which was good and the payment was simple. The staff were very friendly and willing to speak to me and my children.
I understand that people aren't to keen on people writing reviews and including packaging because that's not why you buy the camera but i will try and keep it short! The camera came in a cardboard box which was heavy duty and strong which is great. The box being that hard was good because damaging the box was not a option. Inside the box the camera was wrapped nicely to prevent any damage to it. The user guides and manuals had been put in the box nicely - which i love because they don't come out creased. Everything was packaged well and the packaging prevented the contents from being damaged.
This camera works off batteries which was not at the time what i wanted, but other than this i loved this camera so i didn't mind. The camera runs off two AA batteries which are put in simply, and last a reasonably long time. The batteries for me lasted about 3 days when i was on holiday which tells you quite alot. I went Florida for 16 nights and i changed the batteries 4 times which was fab. The batteries do go down alot quicker if youa re using the camera for video taping but other than that they last a long time.
As you just read before i took this camera on holiday with me. We at the time was taking the camera on all of the rollercoaster which didn't really bother me, until a family member dropped the camera whilst on a loop on the roller-coaster which i thought, that's it end of the camera. To my surprise we went to see if they could get it the next day, they went and got it and the damage to the camera was minimal. I was shocked. We had dropped the camera of the loop the loop, whilst going fast down onto concrete, and it had one chip in the corner and worked perfectly fine. What a miracle!
This camera is 12.2 megapixels produces great quality photos. Taking photos on the camera is also easy which I love. The button to take the photos is very clear, a big button on the top of the camera like most cameras these days. The photos are taken instantly if the flash is turned off, and delayed a couple of seconds if you choose to keep the flash on. I will say the photos without the flash are great and can be took a lot quicker so I would definitely recommend that. If the room is dark however or it is in the evening, the flash is definitely the better option.
Buttons & Features
The buttons on the camera are so easy to use which is great. The buttons are simple and there isn't many of them which is great because then you don't have to remember what each one does. The buttons are on and take a photo on the top. The buttons around the LCD screen are clearly labelled which is great, eg the delete button has a bin symbol by the side of it. The features on the camera are literally not many but everything you need. They have night and daytime capture, video capture, horizontal, flash or no flash, red eye. There aren't the photo edit tools and things which some cameras come with but basically everything you want.
User Guides & Help
Samungs user guides are really good to use. They are so simple and the language they use in them are easy to understand. The user guides are great for everyone. They contain lots of images which are high quality and easy to understand. The user guide has pages with a range of languages in so if you want to read it in something other than English it is great. Samung also has a fab customer service team which i love. The phone number for the company is provided in the user guide, and they respond immediately. The email service for the company is also great, they also respond to emails with useful information within a couple of days. The company also offer a online forum which provides you with useful help and information along with video tutorials if you need more help.
Out and About
The camera is great if you want to take it out. The camera fits well in most bags because it is so small. I recently went to a wedding with this camera and it fitted in my small clutch bag simply. It is also light weight and only weighs 120 grams which is fab.
Memory on the camera without any memory card in is not great at all. It can take a few photos and store them but not many about 50. When purchasing the camera they usually come with memory cards which is great. I currently have a 8GB memory card in which holds loads of photo's and videos. I recently took 2314 photo's on holiday and my camera still had enough space left on it so thats really good. If you are wanting to buy a memory crd for the camera it takes SD, SDHC, MMCplus memroy cards so finding one isn't difficult. They are reasonably cheap in Argos so i recommend going there!
Top Things About The Camera;
Good value for money
2.5 inch LCD Screen
94.1 x 62.7 x 25.2mm
Overall i would definately recommend this camera. It is small and very efficient. The photo's which are taken are really good quality and look fab when printed out. The camera simply doesn't brake which is great especially if you have kids!
I was bought this camera as a present and im not overly keen on it. i can be really slow when using the functions like alot of other samsung cameras ive used seem to be.
BATTERY ISSUES- even when using the lithium battery's they don't last long and when using cheap battery's have sometimes lasted as few as 2 hours when camera is in frequent use. so if you do buy this camera decent re-chargeable battery's are an absolute must or at 4.99 standard cost a time for 4 lithium battery's you will soon have spent as much on the battery's as you did on the camera.
MENUS AND SETTINGS- pretty simple to use and lots to choose from from children, face detection, self portrait, red eye fix to night mode and beauty shot...which is AMAZING if you cant be bothered to put on all your make-up before daring to step in-front of the camera its like being instantly air-brushed. the only problem with these settings is it takes extra long to take the image and you find yourself holding down the capture button for as much as 10 seconds for nothing to happen and then you press it again and the pic is taken before your subjects have a chance to get back in position. so when taking snap of your kids best to just use the standard mode or they will be gone before the pic has finally taken. It can also take a while for the camera to "process" the image if using the function settings and this seems to eat the battery life.
MOVIE MODE- with optical zoom its great as good a quality as a standard video camera and much better quality than most phone cams which dont seem to have a very long recording span this just goes on and on no problem and the internal memory on the camera is 11MB so you can fit plenty on.
TRYING TO DELETE- i cant seem to find anyway of deleting multiple images so you often have to filter through the images deleting one by one which is a real pain! and even when i have wiped the memory card i turn the camera back on next time to find all the images back on there now i don't no if this is a fault with the camera's internal memory setting or the memory card i have put in the cam but its something to look out for if you choose to buy this camera.
the camera is pretty light weight even once you have put the batteries in but the weight stated by samsumg is without battery's or memory card so be aware of this! its 12.2 mega pixels so the shots come out great especial the close up function, really clear. but any time i have had them printed by snap-fish.com which i always use they always recommend they be a bit smaller than the standard 6x4 or the quality just isn't right and they can come out slightly blurred certainly not 12.2 mega-pixels quality so i ended up with loads of pictures and no frames they would fit in but as long as your aware of this before you buy it shouldn't be to much of a problem.
to sum up its an ok camera for around 50-60 quid but not the best on the market for that price
I had a more expensive Sony digital camera until it go stolen when i had my house broken into (no house insurance meant a very unhappy me and very much out of pocket with no camera).
So looked around for a new camera that wasn't going to cost a fortune but had a good quality picture and video.
I found the Samsung ES17 which when i read up about sounded like an alright digital camera and was a GREAT price.
Am i glad i did.
Alright it is a bit light and has a kind of cheap feel to it, the picture is really good for the price of it, the video great, the sound quality on the video is good. The screen is a nice size to see all pictures clearly.
The functions are easy to change and use. Runs on batteries too and they last ages. So no annoying charging, you can always buy batteries wherever you are if they run out.
It doesnt have too much memory so you do have to buy a memory card for it but there so cheap it doesnt really make it a fault.
It comes in pink :-) (a great plus for me anyway) and it was cheap as chips. I would very much recommend this digital camera to anyone who doesn't want to pay too much but still get GREAT quality pics and videos. 10/10 for me!!
I bought this camera mainly because of the price; I picked it up on sale for £50. I have lost numerous cameras on nights out etc and I just can't justify paying anymore than this!
I have to say I am very impressed, for the price this is fantastic. Ok I appreciate what some of the other reviews say about the appearance. It does feel a bit cheap and the screen isn't as big as it's more expensive competitors. However for the price I think it is great, I have it in the pink and the colour is lovely. Most people I know have silver cameras and it is nice to have one that doesn't get mixed up with everyone else's.
Overall there is a good choice of functions, standard landscape, portrait, night, sunset etc. However the function I love is beauty shot!! This function makes everyone look that bit better. I was sceptical at first but it really works. As cameras have got better quality, the result has been pictures that show every lump, bump and blemish. No one looks great in HD. This function is the perfect antidote!
It is has 12.2 mega pixels so the picture quality is perfect resolution for printing up to large poster size (if you need this).
There is also a good video function with VGA resolution at 30fps.
This camera takes 2 x AA batteries. You need to get high performance batteries otherwise it won't work. This is a bit of a negative but as long as you invest in rechargeable batteries it is fine.
Overall a great camera for a reasonable price
Not one of the nicest cameras I've used! Thats the main thing I can say about the camera. Its big and chunk, ok thats fine if you have big hands but not for me. Its cumbersome to hold. It also is finished in a black plastic which looks cheap and nasty, although some would argue that reflects the price, my counter argument is that you can get a better Sony in the same price range. Samsung describe it as being compact, I'd argue that!
In terms of functions, its average. It has 12.2 megapixels, the only redeeming feature to the camera, its optical zoom is a standard 3 x. It has all the same functions of the ES55 but none of its style. It has the 2.5 intelligent screen which automatically adapts to the environments lighting, Beauty shot, this identifies imperfections on a portrait and retouches them. This function isnt as good as it seems though as it merely lightens the photo to such an extent you look abnormal glowing! It has face detection as per the ES55, and Digital Image Stabilization.
Another downside is that it takes AA batteries so you have to spend more on batteries.
Overall, all I can say is not a nice camera with average functions!
Either spend a little more for a decent camera or dont bother!
I got this camera in january this year, and i think it is one of the best cameras i have ever had, and such a good price too. The photographs are such excellent quality, the camera is so simple to use, and its just a great all round camera. Ideal for those into photography as you can get some good snaps on this, plus much cheaper than photography cameras, and also very good for somebody who just wants a normal everday camera as the quality of photographs is very good.
Also the viewing screen is a lovely size so nice to view snaps and videos on the camera. Video quality is also very good and has sound.
Overall such a good camera, at a brilliant price, i would highly recommend it, either for yourself or as a gift for somebody. I have recently got into photography and i can add that i have some great photos on this that people have commented on who took them, and how great and crystal clear they are.
I got the camera for christmas its fantastic. Its easy to use with simple settings wich are vey effective. The flash is good when needed but i peffer to not use it the pciture quality outcome is far better. The camera has face regonistion which is great but i still dont see the point of it. The genral quality of the picture is amazing i used for selling items on ebay and no problems with the pictures. when loading pictures to the computer its easy, you dont need the instructions its that easy. The camera size is about right because its just the right size making it robust. I have dropped the camera a few times no damage what so ever. The zoom is okay but not amzing, but what made me happy was wheni wanted to zoom in i could do it afler the picture was taken this is by far the best feature. In general the camera is fantastic value for money but nothing out of this world but you can get them for under £50 on ebay so its a bargin. Thanks Adam
I bought this camera about 3 months ago and believe it is excellent value for money. It looks The camera is quite small but still has a big enough LCD screen to be able to view your photos clearly once you've taken them. The picture quality is fantastic, which is what you would expect from a 12.2 miegapixel camera. It is definatley a big improvement on the 8 megapixel camera i used to have. The autosensitvitey feature is quite useful, although it only makes a difference when in darker or poorley lit conditions. Unfortunatley there are still times when you can't get the perfect picture due to the light, but it seems to help most of the time. The optical zoom works brilliantly and doesn't change the image quality much unless you're completely zoomed in. A memory card of at least 2gb is essential if you're planning to take lots of pictures, such as when you go on holiday for example. I have used the camera quite a lot during the last few months and it seems very durable and reliable like most samsung cameras.
Pros - a low cost camera (off Amazon, as it was the cheapest 12 meg avalible), fantastic picture quality with brilliant zoom capabilities before and after the picture has been taken, for example once I uploaded a particular picture to my computer I was able to zoom in and read the text on a monument that I wasn't able to read from the distance I was standing in person. A lovely range of features if your not looking for high spec capabilities, such as smile detection and the ability of choosing how many megapixles you whish to use when taking a picture. Desecent flash capability and the choice of pre-set setting for particular image scenes. Also it's easy to upload images to a computer via use of a USB cable.
Cons - When you zoom to the camera full capacity it's really hard to keep the picture steady enough to prevent it bluring. Also I found the menu had to navigate, I kept having to refer to the instuction mannual to see what I was doing wrong. Also the camera itself I quite bulky compared to some of the more expensive similar models by Samsung.
