Advantages: high quality, not bulky, good screen, great price, video function is excellent
Disadvantages: can take pictures a bit slowly
I am only a general user of a camera: holidays, university events, everyday events, occasional landscapes (which it captures beautifully, even if high and low lighting). I did recently use it to record a firework show (set to music) and it captured both visual and sound very well considering the range the camera is in. In 12MP it can be easily used to print up to A1 (though the largest I have printed is A3) and with some toggling of ratios is suitable for HD TVs.
This camera comes in some nice metallic colours, and isn't too bulky/heavy. It comes with batteries which lasted a respectable amount of time but have now been replaced with rechargeable ones, which sometimes have a tendency to run down faster (although newer rechargeable batteries would hopefully have longer life, though still not as much. Camera-specific batteries are recommended)
Using the camera is easy. It has an intuitive layout, though it does not have a quick button to change between video and normal camera mode - though this does mean fewer accidental videos are taken! The video function records sound and, unlike my last camera has a speaker which it will play the sound out of when you replay the video (other cameras sometimes play video without audio, even if they record sound).
The zoom function on this camera is, while in theory good with a five times optical zoom, not as good as on other cameras where the 'zoom bar' allows both digital and optical zoom on the same scale, with a line showing you where the optical zoom's limit is reached (so you know when quality is reduced through zooming, but have the option to do so easily). With this camera it only easily allows optical zoom, with the digital zoom function needing a bit more fiddling. For my general use this is not too much of an issue.
My only real annoyance is that it can take a long time to take a photograph without any obvious reason why: and rarely manages to successfully identify faces. This lag does unfortunately make it a fairly frustrating camera to use sometimes, though it doesn't always take too long and sometimes takes pictures instantly. 5 seconds occasionally is too long to wait for a digital camera to take a picture!
A recommended purchase, as long as you aren't an urgent photographer (unless my camera has a bug but I cannot find any firmware updates to suggest this!)
Summary: great camera if you dont mind waiting to shoot pictures
